Raiders Season Win Total: 5 wins

Here’s a look at the Oakland Raiders’ schedule for the upcoming season.

Week 1: Sun, Sept. 7 at Jets – The Raiders have the toughest strength of schedule this season and get thrown right into the lion’s den with a tough game at a New York Jets team that should be better than expected. Going up against a tough Jet defense isn’t a great way for the Raiders’ new offensive weapons to get off on the right foot.

Week 2: Sun, Sept. 14 vs. Texans – Not only will this date with the Texans mark the Raiders’ home opener, but the game has some added importance for the team’s new quarterback. Matt Schaub will look to put up a big game against his former team.

Week 3: Sun, Sept. 21 at Patriots – The Raiders have set their sights high for this season, and there’s no better way to make an early statement than to go to Foxborough and down a perennial contender in the Patriots.

Week 4: Sun, Sept. 28 vs. Dolphins – The Raiders will need to lick their wounds from their game against the Patriots in a hurry with a date against a tricky Dolphins team coming to town. The team will have to try and avoid the dreaded lookahead factor with their bye on deck. They could surely use that bye, having to travel from the East Coast in Week 1, to the West Coast in Week 2, back to the East Coast, and finally out to London for this contest.

Week 5: BYE

Week 6: Sun, Oct. 12 vs. Chargers – There could still be a bit of a hangover from their trip to London by the time this contest rolls around, but the Raiders will need to bring their A-games in a crucial divisional affair.

Week 7: Sun, Oct. 19 vs. Cardinals – A second consecutive home date for the Raiders coming out of their bye. They’ll face former quarterback Carson Palmer, whose career has been rejuvenated in Arizona.

Week 8: Sun, Oct. 26 at Browns – Going to Cleveland is never fun. At least the Raiders get to go a little earlier in the season before the worst of the weather hits.

Week 9: Sun, Nov. 2 at Seahawks – Playing the defending Super Bowl champions is never easy, but playing them on the second of consecutive road games will be even tougher.

Week 10: Sun, Nov. 9 vs. Broncos – A second consecutive game against one of last season’s Super Bowl teams is hardly the right way to open up the month of November. At least they get this one at home.

Week 11: Sun, Nov. 16 at Chargers – Another key divisional contest in a string of three consecutive games within the AFC West. The Raiders need to knock off teams like the Chargers if they truly believe they can make the playoffs.

Week 12: Thurs, Nov. 20 vs. Chiefs – This Thursday night affair is the lone prime time game on the Raiders’ schedule. It could carry with it some wild card implications, making it an especially important contest.

Week 13: Sun, Nov. 30 at Rams – The Rams are a sneaky tough opponent, particularly on their home field. Even still, Matt Schaub should do a better job of slinging the ball around the dome than Sam Bradford. Controlling the Rams’ ground game will be a whole different story.

Week 14: Sun, Dec. 7 vs. 49ers – Fan violence forced the suspension of the preseason series between these teams. Here’s hoping things calm down in advance of this regular season meeting. With all the travel on their schedule, the Raiders probably would have preferred to see this game listed as a road contest given the short trip.

Week 15: Sun, Dec. 14 at Chiefs – Dates at Seattle and at Kansas City are part of why the Raiders have the league’s toughest schedule.

Week 16: Sun, Dec. 21 vs. Bills – Getting the Bills in Oakland in December is certainly more favorable than having to go to Buffalo in December. Chalk this one up as a winnable game, and maybe the last one of the season with a road game against the Broncos on deck for their season finale.

Week 17: Sun, Dec. 28 at Broncos – The final week of the season may not mean anything for the Raiders in the playoff picture, but finishing strong against the top team in the division could save some people in the front office their jobs.
