Here’s a look at the Kansas City Chiefs’ schedule for the upcoming season.

Week 1: Sun, Sept. 7 vs. Titans – The Chief defense has another opportunity to get off to a hot start, facing a Titan offense that looks like it’s going to be lacking punch. The team will have to do its best to avoid the dreaded lookahead factor with a big divisional game on deck.

Week 2: Sun, Sept. 14 at Broncos – Going to Denver in the second week of the season isn’t ideal, but it will be a good litmus test for the Chiefs in their quest to again be a player in the AFC West and return to the postseason.

Week 3: Sun, Sept. 21 at Dolphins – This is the most winnable game for the Chiefs in a very tough four-game stretch leading into their bye week. They play at San Diego on the other side of their bye, meaning this is actually the most winnable game in a five-game stretch.

Week 4: Mon, Sept. 29 vs. Patriots – The Chiefs really need that home field advantage of theirs to come through for them in games like this. They’ll really need the 12th man to help disrupt Tom Brady and the Patriots’ offensive attack. This game marks the first prime time game at Arrowhead field in three years.

Week 5: Sun, Oct. 5 at 49ers – The Chiefs play a third conference finalist in four weeks, this one on the road against a 49ers team that has all the tools to counter what the Chiefs do best. They’ll also have to avoid looking ahead to their bye week.

Week 6: BYE

Week 7: Sun, Oct. 19 at Chargers – The Chiefs go to San Diego on the other side of their bye week to close out a stretch of four road games in a stretch of five contests. Both teams made the playoffs out of the AFC West a year ago, and this game could go a long way in deciding whether the Chiefs will remain in the postseason picture.

Week 8: Sun, Oct. 26 vs. Rams – This home game against the Rams begins a three-game stretch that would have to be considered the easiest three-game stretch on the Chiefs’ schedule.

Week 9: Sun, Nov. 2 vs. Jets – A second consecutive home game for the Chiefs and a second consecutive favorable matchup. The Chiefs need to be sure to take advantage of this stretch of games.

Week 10: Sun, Nov. 9 at Bills – A road game at Buffalo is definitely very winnable, but the Chiefs need to avoid falling into the trap of looking ahead to their Week 11 clash with the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks. There aren’t too many easy games on the team’s schedule.

Week 11: Sun, Nov. 16 vs. Seahawks – Not having to go to Seattle helps, but the Seahawks come to town after a stretch of relatively soft games, so that major step up in class could come as a bit of a shock.

Week 12: Thurs, Nov. 20 at Raiders – The Chiefs get the Raiders twice in a stretch of four games, and those two contests are certainly the most winnable in that stretch of games. Getting them on a short week after playing the Seahawks means they’ll need to be sure to keep their focus.

Week 13: Sun, Nov. 30 vs. Broncos – Another date with the Broncos, this one sandwiched in between a pair of road contests. The Broncos hit a snag right around this point last season, and the Chiefs will have to hope history repeats itself.

Week 14: Sun, Dec. 7 at Cardinals – The Chiefs enjoy one of the best home field advantages in football, but the Cardinals were strong on their home field a year ago, and this one will be played in Arizona. Edge: Cardinals.

Week 15: Sun, Dec. 14 vs. Raiders – The Chiefs will need to keep their eye on the prize with this date with the Raiders as they close out the year with a pair of tough contests.

Week 16: Sun, Dec. 21 at Steelers – Andy Reid’s decision to sit his starters in the final week of the 2013 regular season cost the Steelers a shot at a playoff berth a year ago.

Week 17: Sun, Dec. 28 vs. Chargers – Tough to imagine the AFC West going to any team other than the Broncos, meaning this game could have major implications on the Wild Card race in the AFC. Andy Reid likely won’t have the luxury of resting his starters this time around.
