2011 Regular Season Opponents

Sun, Sept. 11 BUFFALO Ready to be surprised which team led the league in rushing last season? It was KC, with the potent duo of explosive Jamaal Charles and savvy vet Thomas Jones. Look out, Bills.

Sun, Sept. 18 @ Detroit This is an interesting Week 2 game between two improving young teams. Maybe the case for the Lions needs a little more convincing, but the Chiefs finished 2010 atop the AFC West, if you can believe it.

Sun, Sept. 25 @ San Diego This early divisional road contest is the Chiefs’ opportunity to show the league that last season wasn’t smoke and mirrors. The Chargers are still probably the most talented team in the division and only the gullible think that KC has nothing to prove.

Sun, Oct. 2 MINNESOTA Whether it is Joe Webb or rookie Christian Ponder, there will be a void at quarterback for a little while in Minnesota. Kansas City’s strong offense – which added another good target via the Draft in WR Jonathan Baldwin – should be looking to capitalize.

Sun, Oct. 9 @ Indianapolis Kansas City’s road-heavy early season schedule gets trickier with a trip to Indiana. Barack Obama might not be able to fix this state, but another Colts title certainly would.

Sun, Oct. 16 BYE

Sun, Oct. 23 @ Oakland It’s hard to predict what you’re going to get these days with the Raiders, though they could be minus shutdown CB Nnamdi Asomugha, possibly gone to free agency.

Mon, Oct. 31 SAN DIEGO An episode of MNF that will be all about reppin’ the AFC West, as the division’s two best teams do battle in the frenzied Arrowhead Stadium.

Sun, Nov. 6 MIAMI The Dolphins’ “D” was surprisingly very good last season; good enough in fact to unseat the Chiefs if KC tries to get too cute.

Sun, Nov. 13 DENVER Chiefs DE/OLB ’tweener Tamba Hali has been terrorizing signal-callers for a few seasons now; he’d be the perfect element to throw a wrench in the gears of green QB Tim Tebow.

Mon, Nov. 21 @ New England The league has figured out that the Chiefs are electric and exciting. Kansas City’s second MNF appearance happens in Boston against one of the best the AFC has to offer.

Sun, Nov. 27 PITTSBURGH Kansas City’s best chance in a tough game like this would be to swing the momentum quickly with a big special teams play, say perhaps a Dexter McCluster kick or punt return.

Sun, Dec. 4 @ Chicago The Bears can stop the run but not the pass. The only problem there is that KC’s pass attack was atrocious last season (30th in the league) QB Matt Cassel and his cronies will have to step up their games so the Chiefs’ offense isn’t so one-dimensional.

Sun, Dec. 11 @ New York Jets November and December present a truly difficult stretch for KC’s schedule. The players surprised colleagues and fans alike with an excellent 2010 campaign, but if the Chiefs can make it through 2011 with few blemishes, we’ll know they’re for real.

Sun, Dec. 18 GREEN BAY A hellish stretch that lasts nearly two months concludes with a game against the defending champs. Charles is a great back that averaged a crazy 6.1 yards per clip last year, but he’ll need a career game for Kansas City to snag the win against the Cheese Heads.

Sat, Dec. 24 OAKLAND Drawing the Raiders at home near the end of the regular season – as far as divisional games go – is a nice way to create some positive vibes and attitudes.

Sun, Jan. 1 @ Denver Expect the snow to be swirling in the final game of the season for KC. So long as there are more wins than losses on the slate, the frosty weather will not be a metaphor for the fans’ outlook.
