Wyoming Cowboys 2015 NCAA Football Gambling Odds & Predictions

2015-16 Football Previews – (MWC) – Cowboys

Despite some bright spots, the Wyoming Cowboys had a disappointing 2014 campaign. Finishing the season with a 4-8 record, the Cowboys had big wins over conference foes Air Force and Fresno State, the eventual winners of the Mountain West’s “West” division.

With defensive end Eddie Yarbrough coming back for his junior season, the team will have an immediate boost going into the 2015 season.

Last season, the Cowboys had to face some of the toughest teams in the nation, let alone the conference.

Along with Boise State, Wyoming faced off against Oregon and Michigan State, who were both in the college football playoff.

Let’s break down the team’s strengths and weaknesses in 2015.

Team Strengths

While the Cowboys suffered some key losses, they have some big pieces coming back. First Team All Mountain West player Eddie Yarbrough headlines the list of returning players. Also returning are the backfield duo of Brian Hill and Shaun Wick, who will no doubt help the offense even more with another season of experience under their belts.

The schedule doesn’t feature any prominent NCAA Division I schools, either, which will help Bohl and company focus on what’s important – concentrating on the conference. With Washington State and Appalachian State being the team’s biggest non-conference opponents this season, the Cowboys are looking to show that they can make a splash.

With Wyoming’s defense staying mostly in tact, this team has the nucleus and the experience to challenge the Mountain Division using their coach’s strength: hard-nosed D.

Team Weaknesses

While the team is seeing some big names come back, perhaps the biggest issue for them could be the lack of starting Quarterback. With Colby Kirkegaard gone, there are FIVE possible replacements vying for the job. And they all have a real chance to take it, which is not a good sign.

With their hopes up to improve upon last season’s woeful outcome, they still have to face off against the likes of Boise State and Utah State, both favored to be competing for the title of division winner. Last season, Wyoming lost by a combined 66 points to those two alone.

Did I also mention they play both the Broncos and Aggies on the road?

There are no moral victories in football, but the Cowboys will probably need to find some silver linings somewhere along the way in order to stay relevant in the conference.

2015-16 Wyoming Cowboys Prediction: 5-7

While the running game will give the Cowboys some offensive stability, they lost their two top tacklers from last season on defense. Pair that with the fact that the toughest teams on the schedule are on the road and you have a recipe for a possible serious disaster.

Anything is possible in the Mountain West, but Wyoming will most likely be on the outside looking in this season.
