Two teams going in completely different directions in the Pac-10 will square off Saturday in Corvallis, Oregon.

For the Oregon State Beavers, they are right in the midst of their midseason run to the top of the Pac-10. After starting out the season just 2-2 (and 0-3 ATS), Oregon State has reeled off two wins in their last three games, the only loss coming last weekend at the Los Angeles Coliseum to No. 7 ranked USC.

The Oregon State offense more or less begins and ends with the Rodgers Brothers, Jacquizz and James. The two combined for three of Oregon State’s four touchdowns last week, and both rank as the Beavers top two rushers and receivers. On the season, Jacquizz has 810 yards on the ground and 14 touchdowns (as well as 42 receptions), while James leads the team in receptions with 50 while also carrying the ball from time to time.

Oregon State’s defense can be exposed however, especially through the air. On the year, they are ranked just 111th in all of college football, allowing 264 yards passing per game. In last week’s loss to USC, they allowed 202 yards passing and two touchdowns to Matt Barkley.

As for UCLA Bruins, a season which started out with so much promise has quickly turned into a nightmare, with four straight losses. The main problem for the Bruins has been their inability to keep their quarterbacks healthy, as Kevin Prince and Kevin Craft have split time under center. In addition, since returning from injury a few weeks back, Prince has not nearly been the same quarterback he was early in the season, completing just over 50 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and zero interceptions in the last three games.

The simple fact about this game is that Oregon State is hot, and UCLA is not. And as bad as Oregon State’s pass defense has been, it’s hard to imagine Prince getting going against them. The Beavers always play well once the calendar turns to October and this year has been no exception, as they’ve beaten Arizona State and Stanford handily before last weekend’s loss to USC.
If tradition holds to form, Oregon State should bounce back nicely against UCLA this weekend. Take the Beavers, giving 9 ½ points in this week’s BetUS.com college football betting odds.

Our Pick: Oregon State -9 ½
