UCLA actually out some points on the board against California last weekend, although the Bears got out to an insurmountable lead at halftime. Freshman quarterback Kevin Prince threw for 311 yards, and Johnathan Franklin rushed for 101 yards. That was the positive stuff. On the negative side, they allowed 205 yards and three TD’s from Cal QB Kevin Riley, as well as a total of 289 yards on the ground. They allowed 35 points in the first half of the game, and it was not to be in the football betting odds for UCLA.
These teams, interestingly enough, have averaged virtually the same number of yards per point this season. The difference, whoever, is that Arizona has gotten more out of its rushing and passing games. Nic Grigsby has 509 yards on just 62 carries, and last week he got healthier and ran for 89 yards on just seven attempts against Stanford, including a 57-yard run for the winning touchdown. No, Grigsby’s shoulder injury is not completely healed, but he is going to be in the lineup nonetheless.
The quarterback position is where Arizona has had a big upgrade. If you remember last year, Willie Tuitiama ran the Wildcats’ wide-open offense and threw for 3088 yards and 23 touchdowns. Well, Nick Foles was inserted as the starter against Oregon State and has proceeded to throw for 1053 yards in those three starts, with seven TD passes. He’s completed 74% of his passes.
That’s the real edge for Arizona in that game, as the Wildcats can convert opportunities into touchdowns, while the Bruins all too often have to settle for field goals (four more of them last week and 17 overall). We’re going to take the Arizona Wildcats minus the 7.5 points in the BetUS NCAA college football betting odds.
