Tigers vs. Bulldogs Preview/Pick

Oddsmakers currently have the Tigers listed as 12-point favorites versus the Bulldogs, while the game’s total is sitting at 44, here is a preview, pick and lines betting angle…

College Football Expert Picks – LSU Tigers vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs

LSU had its hands full in the season opener, as Washington piled up 478 yards against them, but they have had an easier time of it with the last two opponents who were considerably less explosive on offense. They beat up on Vanderbilt and Louisiana-Lafayette, allowing just 12 points in the process. The interesting statistic on defense is that LSU is allowing 27.4 yards for every point it has allowed. That means teams have really had to work to score.

Jordan Jefferson, the sophomore quarterback who was so good in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl last year, has been more than adequate, completing passes at a rate of 64.4% and has only been intercepted once in 73 attempts. However, Charles Scott, the running back who looked close to unstoppable last season, has had difficulty getting out of the starting gate, with only 164 yards thus far.

Here are some of the NCAA college football betting trends as they relate to this matchup:

LSU has covered two of its last ten games
LSU has won four of its last five games SU
LSU has played four of its last six games UNDER the total
LSU has covered three of its last ten road games
LSU has won 10 of its last 13 road games SU
LSU has played seven of its last nine road games OVER the total
MSU has won four of its last five home games SU

Also….

LSU has covered 10 of the last 12 meetings
LSU has won the last nine meetings SU
The last five meetings have gone OVER the total
LSU has covered the last eight meetings as the road team
LSU has won six of the last seven meetings SU as the road team

Wide receiver Brandon Lafell is another thoroughbred who is not putting up the kind of numbers you would normally expect from him (14 catches, 129 yards).

So the question becomes whether LSU’s offense can turn itself loose against a Mississippi State team that got some encouragement last week with a 15-3 win over Vanderbilt, where the Bulldogs held the Commodores to just 157 yards.

Well, we’re not so sure that LSU can run wild, because the Bulldogs were able to return some competent defensive players, but new coach Dan Mullen, who would like to have the same kind of attack he had when he was offensive coordinator at Florida, has a club that is landlocked right now.

Quarterbacks Chris Relf and Tyson Lee are limited, and are not going to be the answer as MSU tries to throw a scare into opposing defenses. If LSU can stack the box against running back Anthony Dixon (123 yards last week) they have the athletes to stifle what the Bulldogs can do.

Technical trends give LSU the edge, as the Tigers have covered on their last eight visits to Starkville. We’re laying the points with LSU, the 12-point favorite in the BetUS NCAA college football betting odds.
