And it won’t get any easier as they face off against a Kentucky Wildcats team that arrives in Columbia with just a single win this season.

Kentucky has struggled and the offense has been ineffective as head coach Mark Stoops continues to try to find his starting signal caller, splitting quarterback  duties between Maxwell Smith and Jalen Whitlow, both of whom have only displayed only brief flashes of effectiveness.

The Wildcats offense was limited to just 173 total yards their last time out against Florida, in a 24-7 loss that featured the abilities of kicker Joe Mansour, who led the team in rushing with 25 yards.

Meanwhile, the Gamecocks struggled a bit against Central Florida last week, but a good second half and a career-high 167 yards and three-touchdown performance from a Mike Davis gave South Carolina enough steam to rally from a 10-point halftime deficit to hand the Knights their first loss of the season.

Dylan Thompson, who relieved starting quarterback Connor Shaw in the first quarter, passed for 261 yards and also rushed for a touchdown. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Shaw, who suffered a shoulder injury may be back against the Wildcats who have already lost twice this season to nationally ranked opponents.

To add to Kentucky’s uphill battle, South Carolina has been difficult to beat at home, and is 15-0  under head coach Steve Spurrier  — two wins shy of the school record and the third-longest active streak in the country.

However,  South Carolina’s does have one weakness — its defense.

The defense had its troubles this season, allowing an average of 25.3 points, two more than Kentucky.

The Gamecocks are still waiting for junior defensive end Jadeveon Clowney  to live up to the hype, as he has just two sacks on the season.

Matt’s Prediction

This is an easy game to predict.

The only way Kentucky wins this is if the Gamecocks forget to show up.

I expect Carolina to blow out the Wildcats in this one and cover the spread.

South Carolina 45, Kentucky  14
