Handicapping AP Top 25: NCAA Football Top 10 – Week 7 Betting Preview

Week 7 AP Top 25

The Week 7 AP Top 25 college football rankings were released on Sunday. No movement in the top 5, but Florida State moved up to No. 6 after dominating Maryland, bumping Georgia and Louisville back a single spot each. Alabama remains fixed at the top, and Oregon is the only other team that has been receiving first place votes.

This week’s schedule features some more marquee matchups, including three matchups between ranked teams for the second consecutive weeks, and, like last week, some major programs will take to the road, which could mean an upset.

Let’s take a look at the top 10 teams and their chances of moving up, or down on Sunday when the next set of rankings is released. Lines courtesy of [dfads params=’groups=63740&limit=1&return_javascript=0′].

1. Alabama Crimson Tide (5-0, previous: 1)

Alabama brushed past Georgia State over the weekend, 45-3, looking like the No. 1 team for the second consecutive week after some early struggles. This weekend they’ll make the trip out to Kentucky to take on the Wildcats as 27.5-point favorites.

2. Oregon Ducks (5-0, previous: 2)

Oregon continues to impress, beating up on Colorado, 57-16 over the weekend, and they’ll have a chance to possibly earn some additional consideration for first place votes when they travel out to Seattle for the weekend’s marquee matchup against the 16th-ranked Washington Huskies. Oregon is a 13.5-point favorite in the game, and has won nine consecutive games against Washington.

3. Clemson Tigers (5-0, previous: 3)

The Clemson Tigers had such an easy time with Syracuse on Saturday that they were accused of running up the score… IN THE FIRST HALF! They draw another ACC foe on Saturday when they host Boston College as 24.5-point favorites in Death Valley.

4. Ohio State Buckeyes (6-0, previous: 4)

A much deserved week off for the Buckeyes who have played a lot of football this season. The team improved to 18-0 under Urban Meyer over the weekend, beating Northwestern in the marquee matchup of the week. A late touchdown made the game look a little more one-sided than the back-and-forth affair that it was, but the Buckeyes will just be happy that running back Carlos Hyde showed he can put the offense on his shoulders.

5. Stanford Cardinal (5-0, previous: 5)

Pac-12 hasn’t been all that easy on Stanford. A couple weeks ago they had trouble closing against Arizona State, and over the weekend they just snuck past Washington. They’ll stick with Pac-12 opponents for the next six weeks, starting with a game at Utah on Saturday as nine-point favorites. Utah hasn’t been great in Pac-12 play, but did hang with UCLA their last time out and are coming off an extended break.

6. Florida State Seminoles (5-0, previous: 8)

Florida State has been one of the most pleasant surprises of the college football season. Seminoles quarterback Jameis Winston needed to fight for the starting gig in camp, but now has his name thrown around in Heisman Trophy discussions. The team gets two weeks to enjoy their 63-0 drubbing of Maryland, giving them extra time to prepare for a showdown with Clemson in Death Valley on Oct. 19. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

7. Georgia Bulldogs (4-1, previous: 6)

Georgia’s schedule was supposed to soften up right about now, but after escaping a scare against Tennessee, they get thrown right back into the fire against an undefeated Missouri team that has looked very impressive. The Bulldogs are eight-point favorites in the game, but the Tigers haven’t lost against the spread this season.

8. Louisville Cardinals (5-0, previous: 7)

Louisville hasn’t picked up an impressive win yet, and last week’s win over Temple certainly doesn’t qualify. They’ll get a 4-1 Rutgers team under the lights on Thursday night this week as 18.5-point favorites.

9. Texas A&M Aggies (4-1, previous: 9)

Texas A&M is coming off a bye week and will travel to play Ole Miss. The Rebels have the kind of offense that can keep up with the Aggies’ attack, and so we see A&M installed as favorites of just six points in this matchup.

10. LSU Tigers (5-1, previous: 10)

LSU cruised past Mississippi State in the second half of their game on Saturday after surviving a scare in the first half. A tough matchup for them this weekend when they host the 17th-ranked Florida Gators as seven-point favorites.
