Kansas State

They certainly looked very sharp and focused in beating the Hurricanes but not nearly as much in a 14 point win over North Texas last week.

This is their first road game of the season and they haven’t beaten Oklahoma in any venue since 2006.

Great match in the pivot in this one.  QB Collin Klein plays like the ultimate winner for the Wildcats.

He is known more for his running than throwing but when pressed can be efficient.  Last year against OU the Sooners just kept everything in front of them.  Klein threw for just 58 yards making his 2 score and nearly 100 on the ground a moot point.

They will need to find a way to increase his production this year or risk getting rolled again.

The key for Kansas State is likely to be the defense in this one.

Last year they could barely tackle the Sooners, losing ugly while winning both the time of possession and turnover battles – rare.  They need to be able to slow the Sooners down a little as their own offense is not always smooth.

Getting 14 points is nice considering their ranking, but it also shows that it might be inflated.

Oklahoma

The Sooners were off last week so they have some extra time to prepare for a showdown against ranked Kansas State. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

They have yet to be tested this season in games against UTEP and Florida A&M, though the game against the Miners was much closer than expected.

This is their conference opener so they should be focused on getting off to a good start.  Despite the closeness of the rankings these teams are still  far apart in terms of talent.

Against K-State last year QB Landry Jones might have had his greatest game ever throwing for more than 500 yards and 5 TDs – I am not sure he even got his uniform dirty.

He is missing his top target from last year  – Ryan Broyles – but their is still talent around him to make this fast paced offense go.

Last year they killed them on the ground too averaging nearly 7 yards per touch.

With a top team dropping (USC) the Sooners path to the Championship game eased a little.  They didn’t play last week so no one is talking about the Sooners but they will be soon if they are able to beat up on K-State the way they did last year.

The number seems more than manageable if you think this is a vintage Stoops OU team with legit BCS chances.
