Idaho (5-7, 5-6 ATS) has lost four of its past five games, including a 23-20 defeat at Fresno State last week. The Vandals have at least snapped a five-game losing streak against the spread; they’ve covered back-to-back games.

The offense is cranking out a respectable 26 points per game, but it hasn’t been without its struggles. The line has underperformed; it allowed six sacks against Fresno State, giving the Vandals 43 in just 12 games. The line has also been awful in the ground game, as Idaho is averaging just 81 rush yards per outing. At least Nathan Enderle has led a formidable passing attack; he’s thrown for over 3000 yards this season with 21 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.

On the other side of the ball, the Vandals have done a solid job creating big plays. They recovered a pair of fumbles against Fresno State, giving them a nation-best 19 on the year. The “D” also picked up five sacks. Most importantly, the Vandals have allowed just one offensive touchdown in the past eight quarters—though it was the game winner with just 18 seconds left against the Bulldogs.

San Jose State (1-11, 4-6 ATS) has lost nine straight games. The Spartans at least ended their three-game losing streak on college football odds; they covered as a 13.5-point underdog in last week’s 45-38 loss to Louisiana Tech.

The Spartans are averaging just 15 points per game this season, but the offense has shown great signs of improvement over the past few weeks; the team has scored 27 points or more in three of its past four outings. Jordan La Secla lit up the skies last week, throwing for 496 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions. His final pass was picked off with 12 seconds left, ending San Jose State’s comeback hopes. Still, the Spartans need more efforts like that from La Secla; their running game is worse than Idaho’s.

With a good passing game on tap, it’s a great sign that the San Jose State “D” stood tall last week. It held Louisiana Tech quarterback Ross Jenkins to a pretty bad day (13-29, 105 yards, no touchdowns, two interceptions).

These teams are pretty evenly matched, and it will probably come down to the quarterback battle. Though La Secla was brilliant last week, he hasn’t been nearly as good Enderle—before last week’s game, La Secla had a 10-11 touchdown to interception ratio. That said, the San Jose State offense has been good enough to play keep up the last few weeks. That’ll be enough to cover a two-touchdown spread.

San Jose State at Idaho pick: San Jose State +13.5
