New Mexico Lobos

It’s been a rough year for second year head coach Bob Davie, but his Lobo squad team is young and they play with a lot of heart. They haven’t given up this season and that’s really all you can ask for from a team. They don’t have the talent to compete with some of the best teams in the nation, or even in the Mountain West, but they give it a go week in and week out.

Offensively, they do have a player to watch for. Kasey Carrier is a very good player who ranks 14th in the nation in rushing yards with 1122 and he’s scored 9 rushing touchdowns this season. Look for New Mexico to run the ball and keep control of the ball. It will be difficult. That’s not to say Fresno State has a great defense, they don’t, but when you are a one dimensional team like New Mexico it can be very difficult to move the ball consistently.

Fresno State Bulldogs

You can pretty much guarantee Fresno State is at least scoring 35 points in this game. That’s the minimum number they’ve hit this year. In fact, they’ve gone over 40 points in 7 of their 9 games. The only two games where they didn’t go over 40 points were against UNLV (38 points) and San Diego State (35 points). So, chalk it up, Fresno State is scoring at least 35 points in this game.

Now, let’s talk about their weapons. David Carr has put up ridiculous numbers this season. Carr ranks third in passing yards with 3421, second in passing touchdowns with 32, and he has thrown for only 4 interceptions. He’s having a fantastic year.

With all those numbers he has had to have thrown it to somebody. And that somebody is Davonte Adams. Adams is a Biletnikoff Award semifinalist who leads the nation with 15 touchdown receptions.

As a team, Fresno State is the 5th best offense in the nation putting up 546 yards per game. And in passing they rank 7th in the nation with 384 yards per game.

They have the weapons and they face a defense that just gave up 66 points last week to the Colorado State Rams and for the season average they allow 40 points per game.

This game could get ugly real quickly. We talked about how you can chalk up at least 35 points for Fresno State, well, factor all this in and they should rack up at least 50 points versus the Lobos.

Danny’s FREE College Football Pick:

Look for New Mexico to slow the pace down and try and keep Derek Carr, Josh Quezada, Davante Adams, Josh Harper and the 5th best offense in the nation on the sidelines.

Fresno State’s defense isn’t anywhere near as good as their offense so I do expect New Mexico to have some success on the ground, but overall it won’t be enough. New Mexico’s defense is really bad and it wouldn’t surprise me to see the Bulldogs score on just about every possession.

All in all, expect New Mexico to put up a fight. There isn’t any quit in the Lobos, they have a lot of heart, but they just don’t have the talent.

Look for the Bulldogs to put up a big number and cover the 31.5 point spread.

Pick: Fresno State -31.5
