Handicapping AP Top 25: NCAA Football Top 10 – Week 11 Betting Preview

Week 11 AP Top 25

The Week 11 AP Top 25 college football rankings were released on Sunday. No movement in the top 6. No shuffling from seven to 14 with the exception of Miami falling from seven to 14 and the other teams from eight to 14 moving up one spot. Notre Dame also climbed into the rankings in the 25 spot.

The big games on this week’s schedule will take place on Thursday night with a couple big games in California and in Texas, then the big Alabama-LSU showdown on Saturday.

Let’s take a look at the top 10 teams and their chances of moving up, or down on Sunday when the next set of rankings is released.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide (8-0, previous: 1)

The Crimson Tide are coming off a bye week and surely used every moment of their time off to prepare for Saturday’s showdown with No. 10 LSU. The Tigers give the Tide as tough a test as anyone whenever the teams face off, but Alabama enters this matchup as a 12-point favorite.

2. Oregon Ducks (8-0, previous: 2)

Oregon gets the toughest matchup on their schedule this weekend when they travel to Stanford to take on the Cardinal.

Despite playing in unfriendly surroundings, the Ducks are 10-point favorites in the game and are expected to have little trouble moving the football as per usual.

3. Florida State Seminoles (8-0, previous: 3)

The latest big win for the Seminoles came over the weekend when they beat up on the seventh-ranked Miami Hurricanes, 41-14. Jameis Winston has apparently fixed his vision issues and is now well positioned to continue his race for the Heisman Trophy with a showdown against Wake Forest on Saturday as 35-point favorites.

4. Ohio State Buckeyes (9-0, previous: 4)

A well-deserved bye week for the Buckeyes, who have played two more games than some of the other teams in the top 25. Ohio State improved to 21-0 under Urban Meyer over the weekend.

5. Baylor Bears (7-0, previous: 5)

It’s tough to get a read on what the Bears really are given their schedule, but they’ve had little trouble on either side of the ball thus far. They’ll get their first real test on Thursday in a showdown with a good Oklahoma team. Bettors certainly like what they’ve seen from Baylor thus far, as the Bears are installed as 14.5-point favorites.

6. Stanford Cardinal (7-1, previous: 6)

Stanford probably didn’t expect to be getting 10-points at any point this season, and certainly not at home, but that’s the case for Thursday’s marquee matchup against Oregon. Stanford could tumble with a loss, but boy they’d make a heck of a statement with a win.

7. Auburn Tigers (8-1, previous: 8)

Auburn has been one of the biggest surprises of the season, improving to 8-1 with a win over Arkansas last weekend. This weekend they get Tennessee on the road in an always tough SEC matchup, but they’ll be giving away 7.5-points against a Volunteers team that is below-.500, and just 1-4 in the SEC.

8. Clemson Tigers (8-1, previous: 9)

Clemson took some residual frustration from their loss to Florida State out on Virginia in a 59-10 thumping. The Tigers get a week off this season before hosting the always challenging Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.

9. Missouri Tigers (8-1, previous: 10)

Missouri is coming off an easy win over Tennessee as they continue the soft portion of their SEC schedule. Next up is a date with Kentucky as 14.5-point favorites.

10. LSU Tigers (7-2, previous: 11)

LSU head coach Les Miles complained about his team’s schedule in the offseason, likely because he saw games like this one on the schedule. LSU has played Alabama tough without being able to break through in recent years. The Tigers are just 3-2 in SEC play this season.
