Since their loss to Miami, Georgia Tech has fallen out of favor with the nation and the media but Paul Johnson has not lost the support of his fan base and most importantly his team. Georgia Tech has gone through their lat few games with a business as usual approach and covering and winning three straight since that Thursday Night at Landshark Stadium. Many thought the Yellow Jackets were exposed and that any team with a disciplined speed defense could stop them but that has been far from the case as GT has rebounded with a vengeance. If the blue print for stopping Johnson’s option attack was drawn out, it looks like a few chapters of that book may have been omitted because no one has come close to slowing it down, let alone shutting it down since.

Jonathan Dwyer is still looking like one of the best backs in the country and QB Josh Nesbitt is playing inspired football. Nesbitt isn’t trying to force passes and the way the plays are being called, he isn’t throwing many passes at all, just eight attempts last game against Florida State. As proficient as the offense has been, up until last week in Tallahassee theTech defense had stood tall. Last week at FSU though it was a shredding to the tune of 539 yards and it took all that the offense could muster just to keep pace. The defense will need to stop someone in this game as Tyrod Taylor is a better scrambler than Christian Ponder though Taylor s less likely to throw five touchdown passes like Ponder was able to.

There are very few teams in the country playing better football than Frank Beamer’s Virginia Tech Hokies. Since losing to Alabama in the season opener VT has been virtually flawless seemingly knocking off a ranked opponent week after week. The Hokies played it safe at Duke two weeks ago but blew Boston College out of the building at Lane Stadium last weekend. Of course Virginia Tech has two giant wins at home against Nebraska and Miami this season, both of whom are ranked.

This is the Hokies first real test on the road since the loss to Alabama and the team in in the zone both offensively and defensively. The Hokies have looked unbeatable in the past yet have always managed to stumble during th season.

This is a much tougher test than many think and there is no way Bud Foster’s defense can come out flat or this will be a long day. Part of this season’s success has to fall to the special teams as well as they have made huge plays to spark this team.

Georgia Tech is 6-2 against the spread in games following a cover and they are 7-3-1 against the spread in their last 11 as an underdog. Virginia Tech is 11-4 against the spread in their last 15 as a road favorite and 19-8 against the number in their last 27 road games.

This is just a good match up with two very good teams which has the potential to be a high scoring affair or a defensive struggle but wither way it sets up as a very close game. I think Georgia Tech has the guns and motivation to pull off the mild upset at home but feel even more comfortable with the points.
