Texas

This will be the first real test, especially given it was wins that turned into losses against teams like OSU  the last couple of years that led to their recent fall.

Texas has lost the last two to the Pokes but won the 8 previous games and only a couple of them were close.

I am anxious to see what happens next.

It has been well documented the slippage at QB for Texas.  Vince Young, Colt McCoy…now David Ashe is showing he might be good enough to be the guy.

He is completing 76% of his passes and has yet to throw an interception this season.  They are getting great production from backs Joe Bergeron and Malcolm Brown – both have 200+ yards already.

I thought the defense would be better than it has been though.  Ole Miss was able to make some big plays.

I am still waiting for the Longhorns to convince me.  Oklahoma lost last week revealing the league may lack a top end stud team (unless you think of KSU that way).

This week will be a stern road test the type of which Texas used to always grab.  I am not sold yet so I am more comfortable fading here.

Oklahoma State

This is not the same Oklahoma State teams that was knocking on the Championship door last fall.  They got stunned in the desert by Arizona, losing by 21 points as a 10 point favourite. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

This is their first Big 12 test and a more accurate measure of whether the reign of the Cowboys is really coming to a close.  I think they are going to be just fine.

Turnovers were the key in the Arizona debacle but they were much cleaner last week.

After Arizona coach Gundy was more willing to give J.T. Walsh a shot at QB.  Sure Lafayette is not as strong a team as the Wildcats but Walsh, who has been in the program longer, looked much more comfortable than the highly touted Wes Lunt has.  This team is leading the nation in yards and scoring per game.

They already have 4 runners and 4 receivers with more than 100 yards on the season.

The offense should be able to move the ball against Texas so the key will be the defense.  Last year the Pokes caused 3 turnovers that were critical to victory.

In fact all season long the D came up with the really big play when it was most needed.

They are going to need to be able to do so again to keep their run against Texas going.

Spread Pick:  Oklahoma State +3
O/U Pick:  Over
Score Prediction:  Oklahoma State 38 – Texas 35
