It was just a week ago that star defensive lineman Jadeveon Clowney caused a stir by sitting out a game with an apparent injury. Clowney returned to the field on Saturday in a blowout win and all is right again in the Gamecock universe.

South Carolina quarterback Connor Shaw was feared to be out for several weeks with an injury a couple weeks ago, but he never did end up missing any games, and showed on Saturday against the Razorbacks that he’s at full speed. In South Carolina’s 52-7 win, Shaw accounted for four total touchdowns, completing 19 of 28 passes for 219 yards and three scores, and adding another on the ground. With that outing, Shaw has now thrown for 10 touchdowns without an interception on the year. Running back Mike Shaw added 128 yards on 19 totes in the game. Shaw ranks first in the SEC and 10th in the nation in rushing, racking up more than 123 yards per game. In total, South Carolina racked up 537 yards of offense. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The South Carolina defense is ranked third in the SEC, allowing a little over 345 yards per game. Against Arkansas, the unit allowed a six-yard touchdown run on the Razorbacks’ opening drive, and kept them from scoring the rest of the game.

Tennessee gave away a chance to upset Georgia in their last outing, falling in overtime. With a chance to go ahead on a touchdown in the first overtime session, Alton Howard lost his handle on the ball by the goal line in a play that was initially called a touchdown but was later changed to a touchback. Running back Rajion Neal was the top performer for the Tennessee offense, rushing for 148 yards and a pair of scores.

The Tennessee defense has had a rough go of it this season, allowing 35.7 points and 471.3 yards per game. Despite countless injuries, Georgia put up 34 points against Tennessee, with quarterback Aaron Murray throwing for three scores.

South Carolina is just playing at a different level than Tennessee is right now. Tennessee has dominated this series all-time, but the Gamecocks have won each of the last three meetings, and are 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight trips to Tennessee. The Volunteers have lost 19 straight games against ranked opponents.

The favorite is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings between these teams.

The play: South Carolina -7
