No 10. Oklahoma Sooners vs. No. 3 Oklahoma State Cowboys Preview

Oklahoma State (10-1) still has a chance to play for the BCS title game, but they may have to beat Oklahoma (9-2) in a convincing manner and they have lost 9 straight to the Sooners. NCAAF lines have Oklahoma State as a 3.5-point home favorite with a high total of 71.5.

In their last games Oklahoma beat Iowa State 26-6 and Oklahoma had a bye last week and in their previous game was upset losing to Iowa State 37-31 in 2 OT.

This game may be a shootout like last season when OU beat OSU 47-41 and the Cowboys have the 2nd highest scoring team in the nation while the Sooners have the 8th highest scoring team.

There is a 70% chance of rain in this game and will that have an effect on either team’s dynamic passing attack? We shall see.[soliloquy id=”82219″]

Brandon Weeden leads the OSU offense and he has the best WR in the nation in Justin Blackmon, who ranks among the national leaders in receptions (103), receiving yards (1,241) and TD (15). The Sooners’ pass defense only ranks 87th in the nation so it is key that their solid pass rush, which ranks 3rd in the nation with 37 sacks, get to Weeden in the backfield.

OSU RB Joseph Randle has rushed for over 1,000 yards this season, but he has not rushed for over 80 yards in the Cowboys’ last 3 games. He will be going up against an OU run defense that ranks 31st in the nation. Running the ball may be key not only with the rain, but also in OU’s 2 losses this season they gave up at least 120 rushing yards.

Landry Jones leads the OU passing offense and last season he passed for 468 yards against OSU. Even though his main target in Ryan Broyles is out with a season-ending knee injury he still has several other big play targets. The Cowboys only rank 102nd in the nation defending the pass.

OU rushed for 253 yards in the win over Iowa State with the RB duo of Roy Finch and Brandon Williams combining to rush for 163 yards. OSU only ranks 93rd in the nation defending the run.

One key in this game is turnovers, as OU committed 4 of them last week against Iowa State and OSU leads the nation with forced turnovers.

Batting Trends

Oklahoma is 6-5 ATS and has an O/U record of 6-5 and Oklahoma State is 8-3 ATS and has an O/U record of 4-5-2.
Oklahoma is 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 games as a road underdog, 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games against teams with a winning home record, and has an Over record of 5-2 in their last 7 road games.
Oklahoma State is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS loss, 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games against teams with a winning record, and has an Under record of 3-1-2 in their last 6 games.

Jason’s Pick: The Sooners have covered the spread in their last 6 games facing the Cowboys, but that trend will not continue. I think this is OSU’s year to snap their losing streak to OU, as the Cowboys will win this game and cover the spread. Hard to take the Over, as there is a good chance of rain, but with the passing offenses each of these teams have the Over is the pick.
