Free Pick: Sam Houston State vs. #12 LSU Gambling Lines & Handicapping Preview

Week #2:  Sam Houston State vs LSU

Week two college football betting action sees the Sam Houston State Bearkats taking on the LSU Tigers on Saturday September 6 at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge.  Cappers Picks provides free college football handicapping tips all season long.

LSU will be looking to stay focused this weekend as they welcome FCS Sam Houston State. The Bearkats’ only chance will be to put the ball in the air often but LSU should be able to easily stymie their attack.

Sam Houston State

To the best of my knowledge the Bearkats are the only team that has played two games so far this season, splitting games against Eastern Washington and Huntsville.

A respectable showing against EWU, the top ranked team in the FCS shows that this squad has the ability to be competitive…just not with a team the calibre of LSU.

Especially not in a night game at Tiger Stadium. I don’t think they will embarrass themselves but there is just not much for them to go to for this one.

Over two game the offense has put up 86 points so that doesn’t appear to be the problem. This is a pass first team and so far QB Jared Johnson has been averaging more than 350 yards per game through the air.

He has former Horned Frog Ladarius Brown as his top target and he will need to get away from a tough Tigers secondary if the Bearkats are going to put points up.

LSU

It wasn’t exactly a command performance but LSU showed a lot in coming from behind to beat Wisconsin last weekend. Sure they might have given up a whole bunch of yards on the ground but this was Wisconsin we are talking about.

More importantly they put the clamps on the Badgers new athletic QB, the kind of player they are likely to see a lot of in the SEC this season. Their defense looks good and the offense looks like it will continue to get better.

In their win over Wisconsin the Tigers showed their big play ability with all three of their touchdowns coming on plays of 25 yards or more.

QB Anthony Jennings was not overly efficient but he did not make any blunders and will likely use this contest to develop a rhythm with his receivers.

Freshman all everything Leonard Fournette was not a factor but look for him to get untracked in this one.

NCAA Football Handicapping Trends:

  • Tigers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. win.
  • Over is 6-1 in Tigers last 7 games after allowing less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.
