For Wake Forest they are just hoping to keep this one reasonably competitive as 2013 does not look like it will be a strong year in Winston-Salem.

Last week they beat Army on the road but they also lost by two touchdowns on the road to Boston College in their ACC opener, a team that in the grand scheme of things is really not that good.

The glory days of the Demon Deacons are far behind them now.

Wake Forest

Wake Forest is not expected to compete in the ACC this season and their road loss to Boston College confirmed that though their home loss to Louisiana-Monroe wasn’t impressive was also a strong indicator. It is entirely possible the Demon Deacons are the worst team in the league and this week they are playing the best – that doesn’t usually work out too well for the team on the bottom.

They have lost to the Tigers 4 straight and only one has been close. Winning doesn’t seem reasonable but if senior QB Tanner Price plays well maybe they can have just enough offensive success to keep this one within a couple of scores.

To date they have decent numbers in terms of controlling the passing attacks of their opponents but none had the calibre or experience of Clemson led by Tajh Boyd.

If these guys can not cover the Tigers game will be out of hand by half time. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Clemson

Boredom and expectations, that is what Clemson is going to be fighting against until they get a chance to see how they measure up with Florida State in October. Last week against giant killer N.C. State, on the road, they looked a little sluggish but ultimately won fairly easily even if they failed to cover the spread for the second week in a row.

Everything seems to be working pretty well for the Tigers right now as they have been able to work a lot of players into the lineup over the first few weeks.

I think Saturday’s game will offer that same opportunity and now that this team has already beaten Georgia they can focus on winning without concern for style points.

Their schedule is going to be good enough if they can keep winning but it would help if South Carolina started looking a little better.

Spread Pick: Clemson -28.5
O/U Pick: Over
Score Prediction: Clemson 51 – Wake Forest 17
