Arkansas St. Red Wolves vs. Memphis Tigers Gambling Prediction & Week 4 Preview

Arkansas State vs. Memphis College Football Spread/Handicapping

Arkansas State is among the group of contenders in the Sun Belt Conference this season, after winning the title last year. This program has been on the come for the last couple of seasons but they have to win this game on the road to show that they are really developing as a program not just feasting on the Sun Belt.

This is the first of back to back road games but they should be feeling good after beating conference rival Troy last week.

On the other side Memphis is still looking for their first win of the season. They have been close against Duke and Middle Tennessee but this team has little margin for error and few playmakers to speak of. The defense might be decent though. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Arkansas State

The Red Wolves have started the season by winning the games they are supposed to which is good place to start for a team with a new quarterback at the helm and a new coach to boot. This team should get better as QB Adam Kennedy gets more comfortable but with an experienced line with 4 returning starters and senior running back David Oku they should be more than good enough to get by Memphis.

Oku rushed for more than 1000 yards last year and is on pace to exceed that total if he keeps up his current pace. On defense it is a little concerning they they have a pass defense ranking in the triple digits but I am not sure that Memphis can really exploit that the way that Troy did in the victory last week.

There is great value with Arkansas State this weekend even though this is a road game. I am surprised the number is so low.

Memphis

Memphis joined the American Athletic Conference this year but they were not necessarily ready for any kind of a step up in competition in 2013. They won only 4 games last year but beyond a game against FCS Tennessee-Martin later in the year there are not going to be a lot of wins on their schedule.

There is some experience on this team but they are being led by a freshman QB in Paxton Lynch. Lynch is completing better than 60% of his passes but he needs to be a lot more productive throwing the ball to carry his current 1-2 TD-INT ratio.

Memphis has been solid on defense this season like they were last year when they were third in C-USA in points allowed. They have better numbers across the board on D this year through games against decent competition in Duke and Middle Tennessee too.

Spread Pick: Arkansas State -4
O/U Pick: Under
Score Prediction: Arkansas State 27 – Memphis 14
