Kent St. Golden Flashes vs. LSU Tigers Gambling Prediction & Week 3 Preview

Kent State vs LSU NCAA Football Spread/Handicapping

This is one of those games where you just wish the timing had been a little but different. Last year Kent State was a potential BCS buster that participated in the MAC Championship game so it would have been nice to see how that team stacked up but this year they will be lucky just to qualify for a bowl game.

Meanwhile LSU just rolls along as one of the best teams in America although I am not quite sure we know just how good this team is going to be just yet. As you can see by the number this one is not expected to be close and is probably wrapped up by the Tigers by halftime.

Kent State

Kent State has been unimpressive through a couple of games this season. They are 0-2 ATS having barely beaten FCS Liberty and lost at home against Bowling Green last week to open MAC play.

The key for them to have any chance against LSU is the health of Dri Archer, their speedy do everything running back. Last year Archer averaged an amazing 9 yards per carry and he is a proven difference maker despite his small stature.

He and RB Trayion Durham formed a potent flash and smash attack last year but without him in the lineup Durham’s numbers have suffered too – the ideal is when they play them together. This team is nowhere near strong enough to challenge an SEC and national power like LSU without all the arrows in their quiver. Archer is questionable at the moment which means you have to look elsewhere than backing the Golden Flashes this weekend. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

LSU

Two wins and two covers to start the season for the Tigers so far but this is the last of their gimme games until they square off with Furman later in the year.

So far it looks like QB Zack Mettenburger is much improved over last year, enabling LSU to rip off some big chunks in the passing game with their talented receivers Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry. The running game has been solid too as they probably have 4 backs who could start for most teams.

The key to whether this is a good or great LSU team is always going to be the defense. They gave up 17 points against UAB last week but they all came in the second quarter when the game was pretty much already put away.

We may not know just how good they are defensively until they start playing teams within the conference beginning with Auburn next week. The key is that the first couple of weeks haven’t exposed any flaws in this team.

Spread Pick: LSU -37
O/U Pick: Over
Score Prediction: LSU 49 – Kent State 10
