That’s because the Eagles opened up their 2013 campaign with a 24-14 victory over the Villanova Wildcats last week, behind an outstanding performance from quarterback Chase Rettig who connected with wide receiver Alex Amidon,  13 times for 146 yards and a touchdown in Week 1.

Meanwhile, Demon Deacons’ senior quarterback Tanner Price, who ranks fourth in school history in career completions and sits in fifth in passing yards, led his team to a 31-7 victory over Presbyterian last Thursday.

The Deacons’ defense, which ranks first in the country in first downs allowed, yards allowed and passing yards allowed, played a big part in winning the game, holding its opponent to more than 255 yards less than its own offense.

Meanwhile, Boston College, led by first-year head coach Steve Addazio, put on a show of their own last Saturday, outgoing the Wildcats by 58 yards. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Rettig completed 23 of 30 passes for 285 yards and two touchdowns in the season opener, with Amidon being his main target.

Anchored by a veteran offensive line with three starters blocking for Doak Walker Award candidate Andre Williams, who has 1,696 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in 35 career games, this offense is going to be challenged by the Deacons.

Wake Forest is 8-10-2 against the Golden Eagles, but they have won the last two meetings, including a 28-14 victory as 3.5-point home favorites a season ago.

Price, who  is on pace to finish behind only Riley Skinner on nearly every major career passing category at the school will aim to guide his team to its second victory of the year and third in a row over Boston.

He will get a little help from running back Josh Harris, whose 375 career rushing attempts are the most by any active ACC player.

Matt’s free prediction:

I expect this one to be close just as the current points spread clearly indicates.

Nevertheless, I am going to recommend backing Boston College here, as kicker Nate Freese has connected on 90.5 percent of his field-goal attempts in the last two seasons.

Not to mention that Wake Forest is 8-17 ATS in their last 25 road games.
