The Boilermakers, on the other hand, are 1-6 and have yet to win a conference matchup. There shouldn’t be any surprises straight up; the question is whether or not Purdue can make any noise against the spread.

Ohio State

The Ohio State Buckeyes are one of a handful of undefeated teams left in 2013, but what you can’t forget is that they were also undefeated in 2012.

This team believes it is ready for a national championship, and the only thing standing in their way of being a top-two program is their strength of schedule.

Playing Purdue certainly won’t help that, but it will give them an opportunity to put another win in the box score and score a whole lot of points along the way.

On the season, Ohio State is averaging 47.3 points per game—the fifth-most in all of the FBS. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Their passing game has been subpar on occasion, as they’re throwing for just 221.6 yards per contest (74th), but their running game is what is helping them dominate.

They are posting nearly 300 yards per game on the ground, and they’re ninth in that particular category at this juncture.

Defensively, this team is no slouch, either. They’re 15th in the country this season in points allowed per game (19.1), and they’re going up against a Purdue offense that will have trouble scoring more than that in every outing this season.

Purdue

Purdue’s offense is about as anemic as it comes in today’s college football. They are 90th in passing yards per contest (202.4), 119th in rushing (76.1) and 122nd in points scored (13.1).

To make matters worse, they’ve been just as bad on defense, as they’re giving up 34.4 points per game—106th in the nation.

The hope for Purdue is that Ohio State will play a sloppy game with a bye week right around the corner. That said, the Buckeyes haven’t shown any mercy to weaker opponents this season, and they’ve done a magnificent job of keeping their eye on the prize even when opposing players are seemingly disengaged.

Unfortunately for Purdue, this game is about the eye test for the Buckeyes. Ohio State must prove game in and game out that it deserves to play for a national championship, and that means inferior opponents will feel their wrath moving forward.

Don’t overthink this one too much. Expect the Buckeyes to come out on top, and come out on top big.

Prediction: Ohio State 50 – Purdue 13
