The Notre Dame Fighting Irish renews their annual rivalry with Boston College this upcoming Saturday night when the two teams square off in a battle at Alumni Stadium just outside Boston. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. (ET). The game will be broadcast nationally on ABC.

Notre Dame, under new head coach Brian Kelly is off to another rocky start with three straight losses after a 23-12 opening day win over Purdue. The Fighting Irish have lost to Michigan by four points 28-24 as a 3 ½ point home favorite and by three points 34-31 in overtime to Michigan State as 3 ½ point road underdog. Last week they were flat-out beaten by No. 16 Stanford 37-14, failing to cover as a four-point home dog.

It is hard to put a finger on the problem with the Irish as they have been able to move the ball and put points on the board, but cannot seem to find a way to finish games.

Their offensive attack remains skewed toward the pass as they are ranked seventh in the nation in passing yards per game. QB Dayne Crist has completed 89-of-150 attempts for 1,155 yards and eight TD’s against just three interceptions. NFL Betting

Four Notre Dame players have over 100 yards in receptions led by Michael Floyd’s 24 catches for 339 yards. RB Armando Allen Jr. is the team’s leading rusher with 302 yards on 61 carries.

Boston College opened its season with a 38-20 win over Weber State as a 30 point home favorite. The Eagles then knocked off Kent State 26-13 but once again failed to cover as a 17 point home favorite. Last week as a 3 ½ point home underdog, they were blanked 19-0 by Virginia Tech as the Hokies defense held them to just 250 yards of total offense.

The Eagles offense has been balanced but for the most part lacking any real punch. QB Dave Shinskie has completed just 54.2 percent of his passes for 529 total yards. He has four TD passes but also has thrown four interceptions. RB Montel Harris leads the team in rushing with 306 yards on 67 carries. BC is currently ranked 90th in the country in points per game.

Notre Dame is just 3-7 both straight-up and against the spread in its last 10 games. The Irish are 0-3 SU but 3-0 ATS in their last three road games. The total has stayed ‘under’  in seven of their last 10 games.

Boston College is 6-4 SU in its last 10 games but just 3-7 ATS. The Eagles are 4-2 SU and 2-4 ATS in their last six home games. The total has stayed ‘under’ in seven of their last 10 games.

Head-to-head, Boston College has won seven of the last 10 meetings SU and six of 10 ATS. The last time the Irish beat the Eagles SU in Chestnut Hill was back in 1998. Given Notre Dame’s disappointing start, this game suddenly becomes much more important for the Irish. Look for them to capitalize on that sense of urgency against a very average Boston College team.
