The North Carolina Tar Heels will be looking for their first win of the year when they travel to Piscataway, NJ. this Saturday afternoon to take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in this AAC-Big East matchup. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.

North Carolina came into the 2010 with high expectations of winning the ACC after being ranked as high as No.18 in some preseason polls. An investigation into academic wrongdoings involving a number of starters that resulted in multiple suspensions put a serious dent into those plans as the Tar Heels have now lost their first two games.

They opened the season with a 30-24 loss to No.15 LSU as a 7 ½ point home underdog. They had 13 players declared ineligible for this game but still had a chance to win in the closing seconds of the game.

Last week it was pretty much the same scenario against Georgia Tech. This time around, North Carolina was missing 12 players and once again still has a chance to win the game on its final drive. The Tar Heels fell short, losing by the identical 30-24 score. They were a three point home favorite in this game. NFL Betting

QB T.J Yates and WR Jheranie Boyd have been two bright spots for the Tar Heel offense. Yates has completed 46-of-70 attempts for 621 yards and four TD’s. Boyd is the team’s leading receiver with 221 yards on just six catches including one that went for a 97 yard TD.

Rutgers is suddenly the pride of the Big East as it joins West Virginia as the only two teams in the conference without a loss. The Scarlet Knights beat up on Norfolk State 31-0 in their home opener as a 38 ½ point favorite.

The following week they knocked off Florida International 19-14 as a 14 ½ point road favorite. Both wins featured a heavy dose of a Rutgers’ ground game that has racked up 344 yards on 88 carries. RB Joe Martinek has led the way with 34 carries for 137 yards. QB Tom Savage has completed 17-of-34 attempts for 220 yards and one TD.

North Carolina has now lost its last four games straight up and is 1-3 against the spread. The Tar Heels are 2-2 both SU and ATS in their last four road games. They are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games against the Big East. The total has ‘over’ in seven of their last 10 games.

Rutgers is 7-3 SU in its last 10 games and 5-5 ATS. The Scarlet Knights are 3-2 SU and 2-3 ATS in their last five games at home. The total has stayed ‘under’ in five of their last 10 games overall, but is 7-1 in their last eight nonconference games.

Despite a major loss of talent, the Tar Heels have played surprisingly well against two very good schools. Rutgers does not have the offensive firepower to hang with North Carolina and its defense will not be able to keep the Tar Heels off the board.

Betting Trends:

North Carolina is 1-4 SU in its last 5 games
Rutgers is 18-4 SU in its last 22 games
Rutgers is 12-3 SU in its last 15 games at home
North Carolina is 7-18 SU in its last 25 games on the road

The Pick: North Carolina -2 ½ and UNDER.
