The Central Michigan Chippewas travel to Philadelphia to take on the Temple Owls in a battle of West vs. East in the Mid American Conference.

Defending MAC champion Central Michigan (1-0) is coming off a 33-0 win over Hampton out of the IAA MEAC in its season opener last Saturday. The Chippewas covered as a 32 point road favorite. Temple faced off against its cross town rival Villanova of the IAA Colonial Conference in its opener and came away with a 31-24 victory. The Owls covered the 4 ½ point spread as a home favorite.

These two teams last played one another in 2008 with Central Michigan defeating Temple 24-14 as a 7 ½  point home favorite. That game stayed ‘under’ the 47 ½  point total line. The only other meeting was in 2006 when Temple covered as a 20 point home dog in a 42-26 loss.

The Chippewas will be counting on QB Ryan Radcliff to lead the offense against the Owls. Last week he completed 20-of-34 for 242 yards and one TD. He was able to spread the ball around to eight different receivers. The key will be to do this again against a very good Temple secondary. NFL Betting

They also did a good job on the ground rushing for 168 yards on 42 carries. RB Paris Cotton led the way with 94 yards on 18 carries. This kind of offensive balance is another key to getting a win against the Owls on the road.

Temple’s offense is led by QB Chester Stewart, who threw for 200 yards against the Wildcats, completing 16 of his 27 passes. The main weapon in the Owls’ passing game is WR Michael Campbell. Last week Campbell caught eight passes for 127 yards including one for a 62 yard score.

The Owls managed to rush for 122 total yards with only two players running the ball. Bernard Pierce ran for 75 yards on 25 carries and Matt Brown ran the ball 10 times for 54 yards. They are going to have to do a much better job on the ground to control the line of scrimmage against Central Michigan.

The Chippewas are 9-1 straight up in their last 10 games and 7-1-1 against the spread. They are 3-1 SU and ATS in their last four road games. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of their last 10 games.

Temple is 8-2 SU in its last 10 games and 6-4 ATS. The Owls are 5-1 SU and 3-3 ATS at home in their last six games. The total has ‘over’ in nine of their last 10 games.

The Chippewas were the best team in the MAC last year but they have lost quite a bit of talent from that championship roster. Temple is primed to make a run in the conference as it has gotten better each and every year since joining the MAC. The Owls will find a way to get a win at home, but will not cover the 7 ½.

The Pick: Central Michigan + 7 ½
