The North Carolina State Wolfpack continue their drive towards a berth in the ACC Championship when they take on the in-state rival North Carolina Tar Heels this upcoming Saturday afternoon. Kickoff from Chapel Hill is set for 12 p.m. and the game will broadcast live on ESPN3.com.

North Carolina State is in the driver seat in the ACC- Atlantic by virtue of its 4-2 conference record and an earlier 28-24 win over Florida State, who is 5-2 in conference play. A win this week and next week on the road at Maryland would lock up a berth in the ACC title game on December 4. The Wolfpack are currently 7-3 straight-up overall and 8-2 against the spread.

N.C. State is coming off 38-3 thrashing of Wake Forest after losing a hard-fought 14-13 battle against Clemson the week before. The Wolfpack covered as a 3 ½ point road underdog against the Tigers as well as covering as a 20 ½ point home favorite against the Demon Deacons. Earlier this season they ended up on the short side of a 33-27 OT decision to East Carolina as a 7 ½ point road favorite for their only non-conference loss. The Wolfpack are led QB Russell Wilson, who has thrown for 2,814 yards and has 22 touchdown passes against 12 interceptions. WR Owen Spencer is the team’s leading receiver with 47 catches for 707 yards. NFL Betting

North Carolina comes into this game hoping to play the role of spoiler. It had already taken itself out of contention for the ACC- Coastal with losses to Georgia Tech and Miami earlier in the season and to Virginia Tech last week. They were a three-point home underdog against the Hokies but could not cover in 26-10 loss. The total stayed well ‘under’ the 52 point line. This last loss dropped North Carolina to 6-4 both SU and ATS. It is 3-3 SU in conference play.

The Tar Heels troubles started before they even took the field on opening day with multiple suspensions to numerous starters in light of some off-field improprieties. These suspensions have plagued them off and on all season long as a wealth of talent was lost from a team with very high expectations heading into this season. Their top player behind center has been T.J. Yates, who has thrown for 2,509 yards and has 15 TD’s passes but has also tossed-up eight interceptions. North Carolina’s top receiver is Dwight Jones, who has caught 41 balls for 720 yards and four TD’s.

Trends:

North Carolina State has gone 2-2 SU in its last four road games and is 3-1 ATS. The total has stayed ‘under’ in six of its last nine games overall.
North Carolina is 3-3 SU and ATS in its last six games at home. The total has stayed ‘under’ in six of its last eight games overall.

Head-to-head, the Wolfpack have won six out of the last 10 games SU but the two have evenly split the 10 games ATS; each winning five. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of the last six games.

N.C. State remains the better team and has all the motivation in the world to win this game. While it is never good to go against the home team in a bitter rivalry, take the Wolfpack and the 2 ½ points in this one.

The Pick: North Carolina State +2 ½
