The Florida International Golden Panthers take on the Troy Trojans this upcoming Saturday afternoon in a game that could determine this season’s champion of the Sun Belt Conference. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. (ET). The game will be broadcast on ESPN3.com

Florida International comes into this game following a dramatic 42-35 double-overtime victory over Louisiana-Monroe last Saturday. The Golden Panthers were a 10 ½ point home favorite and the total went well over the 49 ½ point line. This win took their record to 3-5 both straight-up and against the spread for the season but more importantly raised it to 3-1 SU in the Sun Belt with four more conference games to play.

The Golden Panthers’ offense is led by QB Wesley Carroll, who has completed 150-of 260 attempts for 1,694 yards. He has thrown nine touchdown passes but has also thrown 11 interceptions on the year. WR’s T.Y Hilton and Greg Ellingson have combined for 65 receptions for 930 yards and six TD’s catches. RB Darriet Perry is the team’s leading rusher with 348 yards, but the Panthers have three other backs that each have close to 300 yards rushing. NFL Betting

Troy has won four out of its last five games and is the only team in the Sun Belt that has a winning record overall. Last week’s 41-35 victory over North Texas as an 8 ½ point road favorite raised the Trojans record to 5-3 SU, but they are just 2-6 this season ATS. They are 4-1 SU in conference play and would put themselves in excellent position to win the Sun Belt with a win in this game.

Troy boasts one of the best passing games in the country as it is ranked 14th in yards per game with 295.4. QB Corey Robinson has completed 61.6 percent of his passes for 2,254 yards and 16 TD’s. WR Jerrel Jernigan has been on the receiving end of 48 of his completions for a total of 585 yards and four TD’s. The Trojans also employ a running back-by-committee approach as four different players have at least 230 rushing yards this year.

Betting Trends:

FIUis 3-7 in its last 10 games SU and ATS. It is 1-5 SU in its last six road games and 2-4 ATS. The total has stayed ‘under’ in six of its last 10 games overall.
Troy is 6-4 SU in its last 10 games but just 3-6-1 ATS. The Trojans are 3-0 SU, but 0-3 ATS in their last three games at home. The total has stayed ‘under’ in four of its last five games overall.

Head-to-head, Troy has won the last six games SU, but the Golden Panthers are 3-2 ATS in the last five. Last season Troy covered as an eight-point road favorite in a 42-33 win and the year before FIU covered as a 12 ½ point road underdog in a 42-33 loss.

The Trojans are definitely the better team and should come away with the outright win, but the Golden Panthers have been playing much better the past few weeks and will find a way to cover the 8 ½ points.

The Pick: Florida International +8 ½
