Miami (Ohio)

The RedHawks were 1-11 in 2009, but they should certainly be better than that in the 2010 campaign. No one is expecting this team to all of the sudden become contenders for the MAC crown, but they should definitely be much more competitive. Before 2008 this was one of the best in the MAC on an annual basis, so their fans are expected them to start the road to recovery quickly.

Zac Dysert is the main man for the Miami RedHawks offense. Dysert is a dual-threat type of quarterback, who can scramble when necessary, but would be better off throwing more often.

What is the problem with Dysert? He has made far too many bad decisions with the football that hurt his team.

In 2009, he threw 12 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. He is only a sophomore so we’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, but his decision making must improve quickly. The worst news for Miami is they have virtually no running game to help Dysert. The RedHawks averaged a pathetic 70 yards per game on the ground in 2009, bad enough to finish second to last in the nation in that category.

On the defensive side the RedHawks return just about everyone. They should improve upon their poor defensive numbers from 2009, but they won’t jump to the top of the charts any time soon.

The defensive line is a little bit of a weak spot, but the secondary appears ready to have a solid year. College Football

Florida

Urban Meyer’s team will have a whole new look in 2010. Everyone knows that Tim Tebow is gone, but don’t overlook the fact that Brandon Spikes and Joe Haden were the heart and soul of the defense as well.

The Florida recruiting classes have been the best in the nation the last couple years, but Meyer and his staff are still worried about their inexperience.

John Brantley will step in at the signal caller position, and many experts believe he is ready to lead this team right away. Brantley has all the tools to be successful as a major college quarterback. The wide receivers have virtually no experience, but all are high quality recruits that should produce over the long run.

The running game is a concern, not because there isn’t talent, but because the short-yardage situations could be a problem. Expect Jeff Demps to be a weapon and Emmanuel Moody to be impressive, but who will be their third down and goal back?

There is no Tim Tebow to run it up the middle this year.

The Florida defense lost six starters from a year ago. The front seven was hit the hardest, but this team should be plenty deep enough on the line to hold its own against most teams. The secondary is one of the best in the nation with Will Hill and Ahmad Black manning the two safety positions.

Receivers will definitely think twice before running over the middle with this amazing tandem roaming the defensive backfield.

Florida’s inexperience could certainly hurt them this year, but this is still an extremely good football team. Don’t be a bit surprised when they are back on top in the next year or two.

College Football Gambling Trends

Miami (Ohio) is 0-5 SU in its last 5 games on the road
Florida is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games at home
Florida is 23-1 SU in its last 24 games
Miami (Ohio) is 2-6 ATS in its last 8 games on the road
Miami (Ohio) is 1-16 SU in its last 17 games

The Pick:

The spread sitting at 35 is just too dangerous to touch in my opinion. The RedHawks are definitely outclassed in this one, and Urban Meyer will be looking to see as much as possible from his offense. I think the best play on this game is the over.

Miami (Ohio) vs. Florida Score Prediction: Florida 48 Miami 10
