The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers out of the 1AA Big South Conference step way up in class when they travel to Morgantown to take on the No.25 West Virginia Mountaineers out of the Big East.

Coastal Carolina is coming off a 5-6 (3-3) season in 2009 that featured wins over Monmouth and VMI, while West Virginia went 9-4 (5-2), earning themselves a trip to the Gator Bowl where they lost to Florida State 33-21.

It is hard to understand why the 1AA Chanticleers agreed to play a team that is way out of their league given the fact they have struggled to be competitive against the teams in their own conference. While somewhere along the line money has to be involved a 60 or 70 point loss in this game does little to boost the morale of the players. NFL Betting

None the less when they take the field on Saturday it will be up to QB Zach MacDowall and WR Whitley, arguably the two best players on offense, to try and connect on a few big plays to keep the Mountaineers defense off balance.

The defense will feature three transfers from the now defunct Hoftra football team; DT Johnny Hartsfield, LB Chris Thomas, and CB Dontavious Johnson. It is an understatement to say they will have their hands filled on Saturday against a powerful West Virginia offense.

The Mountaineers offensive attack features Geno Smith at quarterback, who backed up Jarrett Brown last season. He will have WR Jock Sanders and RB Ned Devine to smooth out the transition to starter. In 2009, Sanders led the team with 72 receptions for 678 yards and Devine ran for 1,465 yards on 241 carries. Expect to see a number of different players in this one as Sanders and Devine could very well be on the bench by the start of the second half.

Defensively, J.T. Thomas and Pat Lazear are back and will be counted on to provide the veteran leadership to a group that remains basically intact from last season. This unit did struggle a bit down the stretch last season, especially in the loss to the Seminoles to end the season, but should have a much easier time of it against the Chanticleer attack.

This game should amount to nothing more than a brisk practice for West Virginia which explains why the odd makers do not have a line for this game. The last time that Coastal Carolina even had a line on one of its games was last year against Clemson. The Chanticleers lost the game 49-3, but covered the 58.5 point spread.

Chanticleers at Mountaineers Pick: West Virginia  (by at least six touchdowns)
