Marshall had a hiccup last week and they lost to Western Kentucky (67-66) in OT. It’ll be interesting to see how resilient this team is after losing their first game, as Louisiana Tech won’t be a walkover.

Losing to WKU had to hurt the Thundering Herd last week, as they came so close to the perfect season. It ended up being closer than it should have been, as WKU dominated the match-up early on.

I think we can look past the loss and expect Marshall to come out focused this week, as they’re not going to want to throw away the C-USA championship after playing such good football for most of the season.

Marshall may not have played a tough SOS, but they still have an explosive offense that I think would do fine against many college defenses. Marshall scores 46.7 PPG (2nd) while giving up 20.7 PPG (22nd).

The Thundering Herd are very balanced on offense. They average 286.1 PYPG (20th) and 288.5 RYPG (7th) this season. Rakeem Cato and Devon Johnson have both been putting up incredible numbers.

I expect Cato to have a big game this week because the Bulldogs are much tougher against the run (117.7 RYPG – 15th) than the pass (231.9 PYPG – 74th). As a team Louisiana Tech is allowing 25.2 PPG (54th).

Tommy Shuler has been the only consistent WR on Marshall, but I look for him to put up big numbers and help his team win the title. The Bulldogs won’t be able to contain the Marshall passing attack.

The Bulldogs average 267.7 PYPG (36th), 147.5 RYPG (91st) and 38.8 PPG (12th). They’re one of the highest scoring teams in the nation, but Marshall doesn’t allow many points and they play solid defense.

Marshall allows 153.9 RYPG (49th) and 204.9 PYPG (36th), so they should keep the Bulldogs limited, but this is a big spread for a conference championship game and I’m going with L-Tech to cover the point spread.

Louisiana Tech can pass the football effectively and that’ll keep them within striking distance. Cato needs to have a monster game in order to cover this spread, as the run game may have trouble to get rolling.

Louisiana Tech Bulldogs +12.5 (-110)

Marshall could come out with an edge after losing last week, but I think it’s more likely that they come out a bit flat.

The Bulldogs are a bit young as a team, but they have the offense to keep it close.
