Louisville had some trouble in a far more important game against a foe from The American a week ago, but they were able to squeeze out a 20-13 win against a good Houston team after trailing at the break.

Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater had a forgettable night, completing 19 of 29 for just 203 yards and failing to score a touchdown. No one receiver had a special night, with seven different players catching a pass.

It was Dominique Brown who had the biggest night for the offense. He carried the ball 27 times for 137 yards and two scores, adding a 14 yard catch. The game was Bridgewater’s first without a touchdown this season.

The Louisville defense deserves the credit for the team’s win. They limited a good Houston offense to just 195 yards of offense. Houston quarterback John O’Korn was able to complete just 16 of 35 for only 121 yards, and the Cougar rushing attack was limited to 2.6 yards per carry on the night.

Memphis got a heck of a performance from their defense in their last game as well. The unit limited South Florida to just 10 points, seven of which came on a meaningless touchdown in the final minute of the game, a 23-10 Memphis win.

It took a while for the team’s offense to get going. They held a 6-0 lead going into the break, and a 6-3 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Quarterback Paxton Lynch attempted just 13 passes as the team’s ground game was again the star of the show. Lynch did add 51 rushing yards, but it was Brandon Hayes who led the way, carrying the ball 20 times for 78 yards and a touchdown.

It was the team’s defense that won them the game. The unit bent but didn’t break, forcing five Bulls turnovers, including a crucial interception late in the game that was returned 36 yards for a score by Bobby McCain.

Four of those turnovers came from South Florida quarterback Mike White, who was picked off four times in the contest.

The Cardinals have simply been a bad bet this season, and while there isn’t a lot to like about the way the Tigers have played this season, it doesn’t seem likely that Louisville will be able to blow them out of the water, particularly given the form they’ve been in of late.

The Tigers are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games, while the Cardinals are 1-5 in their last six games overall.

The play: Memphis +23
