This year’s Las Vegas Bowl presents an intriguing match-up. The Brigham Young Cougars are getting cosy in this bowl, this being their fifth straight year in America’s Playground.

They face a talented Oregon State squad that has been heartbroken in all the crucial games on its schedule.

The Beavers came up just short against Arizona (37-32 L), USC (42-36 L), and perhaps the most stinging, a recent 37-33 loss to in-state rival Oregon in the Civil War.

BYU isn’t devoid of talent itself, and how this game turns out could come down to how the Beavers respond to these let-downs. We could witness a bit of a barn-burner, with two very strong backfields; BYU’s attack driven by QB Max Hall and RB Harvey Unga, and Oregon State by QB Sean Canfield and RB Jacquizz Rodgers.

“Quizzy”s brother James Rodgers is also a threat catching the football. The Cougars can drop points on most anyone; this game may be a case of ‘the wolf climbing the hill is hungrier than the wolf on top.’ BYU may get complacent after five straight Las Vegas bowls, while the Beavers should be out to prove that they, not Oregon, deserved to be representing the Pac-10 in the prestigious Rose Bowl.

If Oregon State responds well to the adversity, I expect them to win this game.

If not, Brigham Young could certainly ride the prolific arm of Hall to victory.

Expect a good game, and expect one where there is certainly no shortage of points put on the board.
