Wildcats vs Horned Frogs NCAA Football Spread/Handicapping

The Wildcats just keep on rolling in this dream season with only a few obstacles left. Last week when other undefeated teams looked like their rides might come to an end Kansas State just kept rolling, unphased by the fact that All-Everything QB Collin Klein was knocked from the game.

Kansas State

KSU won by 14, rolling their ATS record to 7-1-1 in the process.  This week’s game at TCU is likely their biggest obstacle left.

Collin Klein’s status at current is questionable due to an arm injury.  All you can really say is that it would be a shame if his absence or injury prevented them from finishing this dream season.  That said backup Daniel Sams did a pretty nice impression last week completing 5 of his 6 passes after being forced into duty.

He is just a freshman though and you can bet TCU coach Gary Patterson will have a few things up his sleeve if he starts on Saturday.

Klein or no Klein I think K-State is going to get all they can handle in this one.  Oddly I think they might have had a better chance without him as the team would have been forced to rally around the new guy Sams.  It is usually much easier to sub in for a guy for the whole game than to start cold on the bench and be forced into duty.

TCU

The Horned Frogs are having a bumpy ride in their first go through the Big 12. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

After knocking off West Virginia last week they are finishing the season with a murderer’s row of Kansas State, Oklahoma and Texas.  If you throw in WVU that makes 4 teams that are or have been ranked in the top 10 this year.  A little bit different than the Mountain West.  The key is that they are holding their own and have a chance to prove something this week.

TCU lost their own starting QB a month ago when Casey Pachall checked into rehab.   The athletic Trevone Boykin is just a freshman but he has proven that he can rebound from a few bad decisions to make winning plays, including leading the team to an overtime win at WVU last week.  The Horned Frogs are also leaning on a freshman tailback so this team is still learning as it approaches these important contests.

The Horned Frogs are always a tough out.  This year might have exposed a little bit of depth concerns as the defense has struggled at times but the offense with Boykin is showing great life.  Coach Patterson loves being in an underdog role and this game definitely qualifies.  This should be one of the better games of the weekend.
