2008 Heisman Trophy Prediction

NCAAF: BRADFORD LEADS HEISMAN ODDS

Oklahoma Sooners’ quarterback Sam Bradford leads the list of Heisman Trophy finalists in a race between the country’s top quarterbacks.

Bradford headlines a list that also includes Florida’s Tim Tebow and Texas’ Colt McCoy. All three leaders had outstanding seasons but only one will be crowned on Saturday night in New York City.

We’ve got odds on all three quarterbacks leading up to Saturday’s ceremony and you can place your bet on the Heisman Trophy Winner right now on our Live Odds page.

Here’s a look at the three finalists and their odds.

Sam Bradford – Oklahoma Sooners (1:4)

Why he’ll win it: Bradford has taken his team to the national title game and put up unbelievable numbers in the process. Bradford has thrown for 4,464 yards on the year and has 48 touchdowns versus just six interceptions. Only one of those picks came in the last seven games when the pressure kept magnifying.

The Sooners’ offense has also really excelled over the last six games, scoring over 62 PPG.

Why he won’t: Bradford is not the running threat of his two competitors, rushing for just 65 yards on the season.

Tim Tebow – Florida Gators (3:1)

Why he’ll win it: Tebow became the first sophomore ever to win the award last year. He can become only the second player to win it twice and join Archie Griffin, who performed the feat for Ohio State in 1974-1975. Don’t think that making history doesn’t affect the voters at least somewhat.

2008 Heisman Trophy OddsTebow has put up great all-around numbers once again, throwing for 2,515 yards, 28 touchdowns and only two interceptions. He also ran for 564 yards and 12 touchdowns. Tebow’s leadership skills are also off the charts and showed in Florida’s win over undefeated Alabama last week in the SEC title game.

Why he won’t: Tebow is not the passer that either Bradford or McCoy is and if you’re going to reward him for his running, then that bolsters the argument for McCoy.

Colt McCoy – Texas Longhorns (5:1)

Why he’ll win it: McCoy threw for 3,445 yards this year and has 32 touchdowns versus just seven interceptions. He also incredibly led the team in rushing with 576 yards along with 10 more touchdowns. His completion percentage finished at 77.6% after hovering near 80% for much of the season.

There really wasn’t much more he could do in leading Texas to an 11-1 record this year.

Why he won’t: Even though Texas beat Oklahoma on a neutral site, they fell short of making it to the national title game due to a three-way tie-breaker. While it is unfair to penalize McCoy for that, it does affect the vote.

Heisman Prediction: Bradford, but McCoy presents the best value.
