Iowa Hawkeyes vs. No 21 Nebraska Cornhuskers NCAAF Lines

Hawkeyes vs Cornhuskers Betting Free pick

The Huskers (8-3) are out of the Big 10 title race, but with a win over a legit Iowa (7-4) team they can improve the bowl they play in. Nebraska is coming off a bad loss to Michigan and they face an Iowa squad that has won 2 of their last 3 games.

Iowa Hawkeyes vs. No 21 Nebraska Cornhuskers Preview

NCAAF lines have Nebraska as 9.5-point home favorites in this game with a total of 53.5.

In their last games Iowa beat Purdue 31-21 while Nebraska lost badly to Michigan 45-17.

This game is known as the “Heroes Game” and even though it is the inaugural meeting it is big for both schools and their bowl positioning.

It is pretty simple for the Hawkeyes, as if they can stuff the run they will be in good shape. However, Iowa only ranks 63rd in the nation in run defense. If they cannot contain duel treat QB Taylor Martinez and RB Rex Burkhead they will be in big trouble.

The Huskers do not air it out often with the nation’s 104th ranked passing offense, as the ground game is the key to them in this game. Martinez and Burkhead did not combine for over 100 yards in the blowout loss to Michigan and if that happens again they will lose this game. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Iowa has a well-balanced offense ranking 50th in the nation in passing yards per game and 69th in rushing yards per game. In the win over Purdue they played well on offense and while the Huskers have a solid pass defense their run defense only ranks 74th in the nation so if Iowa can run the ball they may be in good shape.

The one guy the Huskers’ defense really has to key on it is RB Marcus Coker, who rushed for 139 yards last week and has rushed for over 100 yards in 5 of his last 6 games. If the Huskers cannot keep him in check then Iowa has a legit chance to score an upset.

Betting Trends

On the season the Huskers have not been a great team to wager on going 3-7-1 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 5-6 and the Hawkeyes are 5-6 ATS and have an Over/Under record of 7-4.

Iowa is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games, 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games as a road underdog, and has an Over record of 7-3 in their last 10 games.

Nebraska is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 home games, -13-1 ATS in their last 17 games as a home favorite, and has an Under record of 4-0 in their last 4 games as a favorite.

Jason’s Pick: I like Iowa, but Nebraska is a much better team on both sides of the ball and I think they will win this game and cover the 9.5-point spread. At 53.5 the total is a close one to take, but go with the Under since each team has had issues on defense as of late.
