Week 8’s AP poll features a changing of the guard at the top, with Mississippi State moving into the No. 1 spot after they fended off some of the top teams in the SEC during an impressive three-week stretch. Florida State, while undefeated, fell back to No. 2.

Little movement elsewhere in the top-10 with the top eight teams remaining unchanged minus some re-shuffling. Auburn’s loss bumped the Tigers back to No. 6, one spot ahead of instate rival Alabama. Oregon moved back inside the top 10 with their win over UCLA, jumping ahead three spots. Georgia also moved ahead three spots and into the top 10 with a win over Missouri.

Here’s a look at the Week 8 poll with analysis of what we can expect when the Week 9 poll comes out on Sunday.

1. Mississippi State Bulldogs (6-0, previous: T3)

Three straight wins against top-10 opponents is impressive enough, but the Bulldogs led by at least 21 points at some point in each of those game. Their schedule softens out of the bye week with dates against Kentucky, Arkansas, and Tennessee-Martin before finishing off with Alabama and Ole Miss in a three-week stretch that will likely decide their playoff fate.

2. Florida State Seminoles (6-0, previous: 1)

The Seminoles again face a cushy schedule this season, but haven’t been able to dominate opponents like they did a year ago. This upcoming stretch is the toughest on their schedule. They’ll host Notre Dame on Saturday, then get a week off before returning on Thursday to play at Louisville.

3. Ole Miss Rebels (6-0, previous: T3)

Ole Miss wouldn’t have been faulted if they have come out flat against Texas A&M after their big win over Alabama, but they instead raced out to an early lead and cruised to victory. Next up is Tennessee.

4. Baylor Bears (6-0, previous: 5)

Baylor hasn’t looked as impressive as they normally do, which could be a product of Bryce Petty being more hurt than the team is letting on.

The Bears barely snuck by TCU on Saturday, and will make the trip out to Morgantown to take on West Virginia this weekend.

5. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (6-0, previous: 6)

The Irish needed to find an extra gear to beat North Carolina, but proved that they can win games in different ways. Quarterback Everett Golson has been outstanding, and we’ll get to see two of the top quarterbacks in the nation square off Saturday in Tallahassee.

6. Auburn Tigers (5-1, previous: 2)

Auburn ran into a buzzsaw in the form of a white-hot Mississippi State team on Saturday. In fact, the Tigers actually outscored the Bulldogs 23-17 after the first quarter. They’ll have a week to lick their wounds before returning to host South Carolina.

7. Alabama Crimson Tide (5-1, previous: 7)

With a chance to put together a convincing win following their first loss of the season, the Tide instead barely scraped by Arkansas. They’ll need to make some noise Saturday against Texas A&M if they hope to re-gain the confidence of voters.

8. Michigan State Spartans (5-1, previous: 8)

The Spartans had a tougher time with Purdue this weekend than many would have expected. They’ll make the trip out to Indiana this coming Saturday as they continue their lead up to a Nov. 8 showdown with Ohio State.

[dfads params=’groups=63739&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

9. Oregon Ducks (5-1, previous: 12)

Oregon needed a big bounce back after looking past Arizona and they got it with a big win in Pasadena, knocking off UCLA. Now they return home to take on Washington this coming Saturday.

10. Georgia Bulldogs (5-1, previous: 13)

The Bulldogs could have folded without Todd Gurley on Saturday, particularly given how late in the week that news came down, but instead they absolutely throttle Missouri, in Columbia no less. There aren’t a lot of speed bumps remaining on their schedule.

A home date against Auburn is their toughest remaining contest, and a neutral site date with Florida is the biggest road block outside of that.
