Tulsa Golden Hurricane vs. No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners Preview

CFB lines have OU as huge 24-point favorites in this game with a total of 64.

The last time these 2 teams met was in 2009 when the Sooners were at home and laid a 45-0 beat down on the Golden Hurricane.

The Sooners have an offense that has 2 Heisman candidates in QB Landry Jones and WR Ryan Broyles. Jones put up sick numbers last season and he has Broyles and a solid WR corps that is very deep.

One key for the Sooners is their rushing offense, as Brennan Clay will take over as the lead back for the departed DeMarco Murray. Clay may have a big game against Tulsa since they will concentrate on containing Jones and the OU passing attack.

The Tulsa defense returns 8 starters this season and while they have switched to a 4-3 formation they still have the talent to fly around the ball and make big plays for losses in the backfield. However, can the front line D get past the massive offensive line of OU? That is a big question, as if the Sooners control the line on offense Tulsa may be in for a blowout.

G.J. Kinne passed for over 3,600 yards last season with 31 TD and only 10 INT and he leads a Tulsa offense that ranked 5th in the nation in total offense and 6th in scoring. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Not that Tulsa needed any distractions heading into this huge game, but they got one when last season’s 2nd Team All American WR Damaris Johnson was suspended indelicately. Johnson has led the nation in all-purpose yards each of the last two seasons and he will be sorely missed.

Kinne was also the leading rusher for Tulsa last season and he has to play well in this game for the Golden Hurricane to have any chance and the monumental upset.

Tulsa, even without Johnson, has a good offense and they will be facing an Oklahoma defense that is solid, but will miss LB’s Austin Box and Travis Lewis. Still the D line is loaded and the secondary ranked 8th in the nation last season in pass efficiency defense. Tulsa will likely have to air it out early and often to have a shot to win this game, but don’t look for them lighting up the scoreboard.

Betting Trends

Tulsa is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games and has an Under record of 4-1 in their last 5 road games and Oklahoma is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games and has an Under record of 4-1 in their last 5 games as a home favorite.
Tulsa is only 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 games against Oklahoma.

Tulsa is overmatched in this game and without Jones they will be in for a long game on both sides of the ball. The 24-point spread is tough to take, but OU will show in this game they are national title contenders with an easy blowout win.

Pick: Oklahoma -24 and the Under
