Miami hit the road for the first time this season last week, travelling to take on South Florida. They didn’t have much trouble with a Bulls team that has been a tremendous disappointment this season, beating them 49-21. Quarterback Stephen Morris tweaked an ankle injury in the contest that’s plagued him over the last couple weeks. Morris is expected to be ready to go in this game.

Morris threw for 222 yards and a pair of scores before exiting. The Miami offense had sealed the deal long before he left, compiling 251 yards of offense in the first quarter alone. Running back Duke Johnson scored a touchdown in the game, the eight consecutive game in which he’s found the endzone. He finished the game with 84 yards on 14 carries. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Miami defense scored a touchdown of their own when Shayon Green sacked Florida State quarterback Steven Bench, forcing a fumble that was brought back to the house by Jimmy Gaines. The team did have some trouble stopping Marcus Shaw, who racked up 127 yards and a score in the game.

Georgia Tech’s last outing certainly wasn’t one worth writing home about. The team’s potent rushing attack wasn’t able to get going in the Thursday night contest against Virginia Tech, an always crucial meeting in deciding the Coastal Division’s representative in the ACC championship game, gaining only 129 rushing yards in the game.

Quarterback Vad Lee had added another dimension to the offense with his arm, but on that night he completed only seven of 24 passes for 144 yards with a pair of interceptions and a lost fumble.

The Yellow Jacket defense did something Frank Beamer has been trying to figure out how to do for well over a year, and that’s make Logan Thomas look like a competent quarterback. Thomas threw for a touchdown and added another score on the ground in the game.

The uncertainty surrounding the status of Miami quarterback Stephen Morris has surely caused this line to dip below where it belongs, and while Georgia Tech has had some additional time to prepare, the Hurricanes have looked to be in a whole other class than the Yellow Jackets this season.

The Hurricanes are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games against ACC opponents.

The play: Miami -5
