UCF

This season has not been as grand as last year’s but it shows the overall strength of the program that they can still finish in a tie for the league lead with Memphis. They started with two tough losses to power conference teams and must be kicking themselves for losing to Connecticut on the road – their lone conference loss and the Huskies lone conference win. The defense has been stellar this season but the offense without Blake Bortles never really came together.

William Stanback was supposed to take over for Storm Johnson at RB but he has had a poor year, dealing with injuries most of the season. As a result the running game never really got going and they couldn’t play the kind of game you want to when your defense can dominate. QB Justin Holman showed that he can handle the job and there should be optimism for the fact that he has two more years on campus.

East Carolina

The Pirates created some buzz with their hot start but with a couple of conference losses already they are out of the race for the league title (Memphis will finish with just one and has clinched a share). ECU is definitely offense first with one of the best passing attacks in the land. Unfortunately they can not defend the pass all that well, which seems counterintuitive given they can practice against it all the time. This is a good but not great team that can hang with most offensively.

This will be the last regular season game for the prolific duo of Shane Carden and Justin Hardy. Both seniors have enjoyed very good farewell campaigns and if they keep their average stats for this and the bowl game they will have had their best seasons ever. They will be the focus of the UCF defense for sure, one that has a secondary to put the clamps on anybody.

NCAAF Handicapping Trends:

  • Over is 7-0 in Knights last 7 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.
  • Knights are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 Thursday games.
  • Over is 8-1 in Knights last 9 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game.
  • Under is 4-0 in Pirates last 4 games on grass.
  • Pirates are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 Thursday games.
  • Pirates are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
  • Home team is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings.
  • Knights are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 meetings.

NCAAF Prediction:  UCF +6.5

With more to play for and with that rock solid defense I like the Knights to get the upset on Thursday night.

NCAAF Score prediction:  UCF 27 – ECU 21

This one will be hard fought but UCF will get it done to win their share of the AAC title again.
