Iowa State

The Cyclones got their second win of the season last week but the Longhorns may be in luck because they already got their surprise win of the year, upsetting rival Iowa last month.

Iowa State was a rare favourite last week and answered the bell with a victory over Toledo in which they scored a season high 37 points.

Texas is still packing on defense so they are probably going to find things more challenging this week for sure. Last year they played Texas close losing by a point.

Quarterback Sam Richardson is leading the Cyclones in running and passing.

He appears to be showing some development but the challenge is they are not getting much from their running backs. The biggest threat for Iowa State is freshman receiver Allen Lazard.

He is 6’5” and 220 pounds and can create a physical mismatch with any team’s secondary.

Texas

The Longhorns are what they are. They have a sub .500 record and have lost 4 of their last 5 games.

Yes it has been a challenging schedule but this team has been so terrible offensively that it should come as no surprise they have struggled so mightily – only once have they scored more than 26 points.

Things will get easier schedule wise down the stretch but the days of Texas beating teams just by putting on the burnt orange jerseys are long gone.

It is still amazing how the Longhorns have struggled on offense. You would think with the way they recruit they would be able to play like Wisconsin if they had to and just mash opponents into submission.

If you go by recruiting rankings they should have the best backfield in the country (or close to it) but they average just 136ypg on the ground (101st). Things will look better this week thanks to ISU.
