East Carolina is looking to get one of their patented upsets while Virginia Tech looks to prove last week was no fluke. On kind of a light weekend this game definitely has my attention.

East Carolina

East Carolina often puts a scare into power conference opponents. Last week they covered on the road at South Carolina, a game in which they led for most of the first half.  After that they never really threatened to win but their backers were happy. They are going to get another chance to grab some respect facing a Virginia tech team that is going to be fired up after their big win. East Carolina has the ability to threaten the Hokies.

The main reason the Hokies have a chance is QB Shane Carden. He is underrated nationally but it is hard to find a more accomplished quarterback in the nation. He is not immune to pressure but his experience will be a huge benefit as will the fact that he has a next level calibre target in Justin Hardy.

He is going to need it against one of the best secondaries in the nation.

Virginia Tech

In looking at this Hokies team it is no surprise that the defense is better than expected. Bud Foster is one of the best coordinators in the biz and proves it every year. Last week against Ohio State was vintage Hokie defense as they got after the quarterback and forced some game changing plays. If they can play at that high a level throughout the season Virginia Tech will be a force to be reckoned with in the ACC.

The Hokies want to be a defense, running and special teams squad but with new QB Michael Brewer they can also be efficient through the air. There have been some talented quarterbacks that have come through Blacksburg but this former Red Raider is different in the sense that he likes to complete passes (joking).

Through two games he is close to 70%. Take that Michael Vick.

NCAA Football Week #3 Prediction:  ECU +11

NCAAF Score prediction:  Virginia Tech 33 – ECU 27

ECU is always very likable as an underdog, partly because of their DNA and partly because they have the ability to pass the ball effectively in catchup mode if necessary. Trust the Pirates history to repeat in this one.
