Week 6: Bears vs Longhorns Picks

Week 6 college football betting action sees the Baylor Bears taking on the Texas Longhorns on Saturday October 4 at Darrell K. Royal Stadium in Austin, Texas.  Cappers Picks provides free college football handicapping tips all season long.

Baylor routed Texas last year but that was on their home turf. They are the better team again but winning in Austin will be more challenging.

Baylor

The Bears look primed for another season of dominance in the B12.  Their early non-conference slate was pretty light but they opened up conference play last weekend by beating Iowa State on the road by 21 in a game that was never in doubt. Saturday they head on down to Austin to face a “who knows” Texas team. On talent they should cruise for another easy victory but this will be the third road game in a road for Baylor. Are they perhaps a little weary.

As long as the Bears have a top 10 offense and defense they are going to be in the hunt for a playoff spot. They are the top gaining and scoring team in the nation and the defense in 6th and 8th respectively in those categories. A funny stat so far is that even though QB Bryce Petty is a definite Heisman candidate he has the same number of TD throws as his backup. Look for him to start creating some distance there with this game as the Bear may go wild on Texas again.

Texas

In his first season in Austin coach Charlie Strong appears to be strong on discipline but the result are just 2-2, with two home losses to boot. UCLA and BYU are quality teams no doubt but the Longhorns are quite likely going to be sub .500 after this one and looked just mediocre in beating Kansas 23-0 last week. With Oklahoma after Baylor and some tough road games to come it is possible this club doesn’t even become bowl eligible. Just let that thought set in a little.

I believe that Strong will have his guys prepared but that may not be enough.

Texas is struggling once again on the offensive side of the ball and I don’t think they are going to be able to shutdown the Bears defensively. In short, I just don’t see how they are going to win the game. They might show better than expected but odds are they will fall like most B12 opponents have to the Bears over the last couple of seasons.

NCAA Football Week #6 Prediction:  Baylor -15

NCAAF Score prediction:  4* Play on Baylor 49 – Texas 17

This looks like another easy victory for the Bears. I don’t think it will be a huge embarrassment but I am not sure the Longhorns are capable of keeping it close.
