Baylor

Baylor is still trying to build tradition but it seems like they have been taken for granted early this season. No they have not been overly challenged but at the same time they have run through their early slate with predictable ease.

Now they open B12 play on the road, though it is against a team they scored 70 points against a year ago. Odds of them repeating that performance seem slim but there is little doubt their explosive offense will make the outcome of this game predictable.

Through three games the Bears are first in yards and points per game on offense while at the same time their defense is second and third in those categories. The latter is going to be tough to maintain but probably not in this one.

QB Bryce Petty has picked up where he left off a year ago and the weapons he has at his disposal sometimes makes it look a little too easy out there.

ISU had no answers a year ago and doesn’t have great defensive personnel.

Iowa State

The Cyclones beat an Iowa team that waas predicted to be a player in the Big Ten this season for their only non-conference victory.

At a place like Iowa State that victory alone might make this season a success but I don’t think there will be too much of a hangover factor because it was a couple of weeks ago.

Even with that victory the overall outlook for this season is not very strong. In fact, this team didn’t have a date with Kansas later it might be their only one. They lost at home to North Dakota State and it wasn’t even close.

In this series these teams have been trading home victories over the last 5 seasons.

I think that is about to change as this Cyclones team just doesn’t have enough offensive prowess to press the Bears.

At home they might get a few early stops at Petty and Co. feel out how they are going to attack but after a few of their own three and outs the game will likely be out of reach.

This team definitely does not have the talent for a comeback.
