Alabama was brilliant last week looking as good as any team has all season long. I would not want to be the Vols this weekend.

Alabama

The Crimson Tide’s demolition of Texas A&M might be one of the most impressive performances I can remember.

The Aggies are far from great but I believe they were ranked coming into the game and it is not as is they fumbled the ball away 11 times. Alabama just dominated the way that few teams can, outgaining them by more than 400 yards.

Essentially the game was over midway through the second quarter – a period in which they scored 35 points. Their explosiveness was certainly back.

We saw the best of Alabama last week as they scored 59 points and yielded zero. Tennessee is probably not as good a team as A&M but odds are they won’t dominate like they did last week.

That doesn’t mean they won’t be able to run the ball at will and make big plays in the passing game, it just means the results are likely to be in the more normal 42 – 13 kind of range. If that can be considered normal.

Tennessee

The Vols have shown some promise, losing to Georgia and Florida by a combined 4 points, but that is just papering over the fact that they have lost 4 of 5, with the lone win being against Chattanooga. Lots of teams seem to be taking the next step in the SEC this season so perhaps next year can be Tennessee’s year.

Their schedule is such that they might not win another game this season.

This was supposed to be a development year for the program anyway.

Just don’t tell that to Justin Worley, the senior QB.

He is having a decent season but will be facing the Crimson Tide off of his worst game of the year with three picks against Ole Miss. If you look at his numbers game by game he tends to have either good or bad games and shows an ability to bounce back.

If the Vols are going to keep this one at all respectable they are going to need him to stand tall and make some plays. He is a big guy and can hang in there.

NCAA Football Week #9 Prediction: Alabama -17.5

Alabama is riding high so there is a good argument to fade them but Tennessee is just not there in terms of being able to really battle them.
