East Carolina

Things have gotten quite in Greenville. After big wins against Virginia Tech and North Carolina they are now in the AAC schedule and it just isn’t very captivating.

They opened with a ho-hum win over SMU and now they are heading down to Florida to face USF.

Based on what we have seen they might rip through conference play until go to Cincinnati and host UCF the final week of the season.

The latter would have some juice if both teams are undefeated in conference play.

The Pirates operate one of the most prolific offenses in college football thanks to QB Shane Carden. Last week he topped 400 yards for the third time in a row and he and receiver Justin Hardy form a lethal duo. Though they are a pass first team they can run the ball too – running back Breon Allen is ripping off almost 9 yards per carry.

ECU takes what you give them and rips big plays all game long.

South Florida

I am getting kind of tired of banging on USF. There was a point of time when it looked like they might establish themselves, kind of like UCF, but that window seems to have closed.

Now they are a mediocre to poor team so the fact that they might be residing in a recruiting hotbed is kind of a moot point.

This season they have performed as expected beating lightweights Connecticut and Western Carolina while losing to teams that have real skill.

The Bulls are middle of the pack defensively but on offense they really struggle.

Freshman running back had a monster debut against Western Carolina but since then has not been able to average even 4 yards per carry.

Passing the ball they are about the same as sophomore Mike White is not showing any real improvement in his second season.

He is completing only 40% of his passes.
