The Bulldogs will play in Starkville for the final time in their 2014 campaign when the Vanderbilt Commodores come to town.

Vanderbilt

This probably isn’t the most ideal situation for the Commodores. With just 3 wins on the season, none of which coming in the SEC, they head to Starkville to face a Bulldog team that must win these last two games convincingly to impress  the committee.

With their lost to Florida prior to their bye week, Vanderbilt was officially eliminated from postseason play for the first time in four years. Now, they look to somehow play spoiler and ruin Mississippi State’s chance at the playoff. To have any chance, the Commodores will have to establish some sort of rhythm on offense.

Vanderbilt’s offensive numbers are not pretty. With just 182.1 pass yards a game (107th) and 113.9 rush yards a game (113th), the offense fails to gain any type of tempo or stability when they’re on the field. Establishing the run game early and controlling the clock is an absolute must. Vanderbilt is simply not talented enough to trade scores with the high powered Mississippi State offense.

Mississippi State

Even with their loss in Tuscaloosa last week, the Bulldogs find themselves #4 in the latest college rankings released.

QB Dak Prescott will look to avenge his three interception game and get the Bulldogs offense rolling once again. Prescott’s mistakes have become a reoccurring theme lately. He is tied for the SEC lead in interceptions with 10.

Even though Prescott has struggled with turning the ball over, the Mississippi State offense still ranks among the best in the nation.

They’re one of the most balanced offenses in the country with 269.5 pass yards per game (36th) and 243.2 rush yards per game (20th).

Bulldogs head coach Dan Mullen is interested to see how his team will handle the adversity of their first loss.

They shouldn’t have any problem getting things back on track as they are 6-0 at in Starkville this season and are averaging 40.7 points at home. A simple win may not be enough though.

Mississippi State has the likes of TCU, Ohio State, and Baylor on their heels hoping to jump the Bulldogs in the rankings.

Look for Mississippi State to come out firing here and impress the committee with a lot of points.

NCAA Football Handicapping Trends:

  • Commodores are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 road games.
  • Commodores are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference games.
  • Bulldogs are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 conference games.
  • Bulldogs are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games in November.

Free 4* NCAA Betting Pick: Mississippi State -30

If Mississippi State wants to hold on to the #4 spot in the rankings, winning big is a must.

Mississippi State 55, Vanderbilt 7

Dak Prescott should be able to pick apart this Vanderbilt defense en route to blowout victory.
