Texas Tech

Texas Tech is quickly becoming the definition of a one-way football team. The team is passing for 327.3 yards per game, which is good enough to 17th in the nation, and those yards are translating into 33.3 points per contest (36.0 PPG in wins).

The problem is that there’s virtually no defense to be found. The team is giving up 36.7 points per game, and that number is only good enough for 112th in the nation.

Where Texas Tech actually is converting on defense is in the passing game. When defending the pass, the Red Raiders are giving up just 135 yards per contest (7th in the country), but against Oklahoma State, they’ll need to put together a better showing against the run than the near-300 yards per contest they’re allowing (the 125th-best mark in the nation).

Oklahoma State is a balanced offensive team, which could cause problems for the Red Raiders. Watch for the Cowboys to take advantage of the ground game.

Oklahoma State

The Oklahoma State Cowboys are just 17-21-3 all time against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. However, they’ve won the last five meetings dating back to 2009, and they’re a two-touchdown favorite entering this contest.

Dating back to 2001, OSU has won every home contest against the Red Raiders. It has home-field advantage again in this one, and it has momentum coming off of two dominant victories over Missouri State and UTSI.

On the year, Oklahoma State is giving up 24.3 points per contest, which is good enough for the 64th-best mark in the nation. On offense, it’s scoring the 36th-highest points-per-game average at 38.0.

In this one, the Cowboys will look to attack the porous run defense of the Red Raiders. There’s a balanced attack on the side of OSU (47th in passing yards, 57th in rushing yards), but the matchup will dictate the approach.

Week 5 NCAA Football

Everyone loves a Thursday night game. As usual, this one is nationally televised, and while it should be a tightly fought contest all the way through, Oklahoma State has a chance to pull ahead late.

Unfortunately for Texas Tech, it’s going to need to be close entering the fourth quarter. Although this should be the case, any deficit greater than a touchdown will make a fourth-quarter comeback tough for the 2-1 Red Raiders.

This one won’t be a 43-13 trouncing like we saw in OSU’s favor last week, but it should be in the Cowboys’ favor when the clock strikes zero. Look for a close game through three quarters, followed by a convincing win when it’s all said and done.
