This will be a matchup between two teams looking to prove that last week was their true form — not what we’ve seen most of the year up to this point.

San Diego State

San Diego State improved to 2-2 with its most recent win. Against UNLV, the team recorded two interceptions and allowed 455 yards while recording 466 yards of its own.

On the year, the Aztecs have had difficulty establishing themselves as a power on offense. The team is rushing for just 182 yards per game — the 52nd-best mark in the country — and throwing for just 215.3 yards per game — the 83rd-best mark in the country.

In total, San Diego State is scoring just 26.5 points per contest, which is only good enough for 85th nationwide.

Defense is a different story. The team is 39th in points per game allowed (20.8) and 35th in rushing yards allowed (115.2 per game).

MyBookie

The problem comes when this team is forced to defend the pass, as it’s giving up 268 yards per game in that category — the 101st-best mark in the country.

Fresno State

Fresno State was able to pull out a win last week with balance on offense. The team busted loose for 593 total yards, compiling 321 through the air and 272 on the ground.

On the year, the Bulldogs have found that same kind of balance. The team is 51st in passing yards per game and 42nd in rushing yards per game, having compiled 259.2 and 195.6 yards per game in each respective category.

In total, the team is posting 30 points per game — the 69th-best mark in the country — but it’s defense that is the biggest problem.

So far, the Bulldogs are allowing their opponents to score 41.2 points per game. That number puts them at 122nd in the nation, and it’s the reason they’re 2-3 at this point in the year.

NCAA Football Handicapping Trends:

  • Under is 6-2 in FRES last 8 conference games.
  • FRES are 7-19 ATS in their last 26 Fri. games.
  • Under is 6-2 in SDSU last 8 road games.
  • Under is 13-5 in SDSU last 18 games on fieldturf.

Week 6 NCAA Football

The Bulldogs are going to struggle containing the offense of San Diego State. Then again, that’s not exactly going out on a limb, as this group is 122nd in yards per game allowed this season.

This won’t be an easy win for San Diego State, but give them the nod at this point in the process. The question is: How much will they in by in a close contest?

Free NCAA Betting Pick 4* San Diego State +3

With Fresno State as three-point favorites, the safe bet is with San Diego State ATS. If it were the other way around, you might consider Fresno State with a close loss straight up in a win ATS. Keep an eye on the odds as Friday approaches.
