The Ducks are favorites in this one for many reasons, but the biggest of them all is Marcus Mariota.
The Heisman candidate quarterback is the reason this team is 14th in the country in passing yards per game.

The team is gaining 302.1 yards per game through the air, which is helping translate to 45.8 points per contest — the third-best mark in the nation.
Defensively, this team is respectable. The team is just 42nd in the nation in points allowed, but that’s because it’s giving up just 23.6 points per game.
Defending the pass is going to be the key here for Oregon. Oregon State’s rushing game is struggling, and that’s before you take into account the numerous injuries they’ve endured entering this contest.

The Oregon State rushing game is 114th in the nation in terms of rushing yards per game.
The team is averaging 115.5 yards per game in that category, but it’s going to be even rougher this week with only one healthy scholarship tailback practicing this week.
Against Oregon, the strategy is keeping the Ducks’ offense off the field. The Beavers don’t exactly run a quick pace, so this shouldn’t be a problem if the team can complete plays on third downs.
That, of course, will be the catch. Oregon is going to put up points, and Oregon State needs to keep up early so it’s not pushing the pace and playing catch up late.
